I just wanted to say a hearty "thank you" here to everyone who recommended I give a listen to Cabin Pressure (and especially to
thisbluespirit, who helped me find it). I've finally just finished listening through all of it, and I enjoyed it greatly!
And I can see now, I think, why everyone's reacted so positively to the news that James Finnemore will be working on the new season of Good Omens. His writing is very funny, in that classic British humor kind of way, and he's very clever with words. I'm also impressed by the fact that even though the Cabin Pressure crew are all basically people constructed from silly collections of humorous character traits, they do actually feel quite human underneath it all. Hell, the final episode actually made me feel kind of heart-warmingly mushy about them, which I wasn't really expecting. It also occurs to me that even though the show is full to brimming with snark and comedic insults, it never feels remotely mean-spirited. All of which bodes well, I think, for someone looking to continue down a path blazed by Terry Pratchett.
I've also been recommended Series 9 of his Souvenir Programme, which I had never even heard of before, but that immediately raises in my mind the question: what about series 1-8? Is this the sort of thing where every season stands on its own, or will I be missing something if I just listen to series 9? I'd google it, but I'm told it's best to go in knowing as little about it as possible, so I've been reluctant to do that.
