While it's unfortunate that we have to scrutinize our likes/dislikes more closely if it's a female character, I also think we *should*.

Once our blind spots are pointed out to us and we got over the initial knee jerk response, we can't ignore them. I mean, better to look at something ugly than being blindfolded.
It's easy to jump on a bandwagon, and those bandwagons seem to get rolling much more easily with female than male characters!
Right. And once the bloody thing gets rolling, it's very hard to stop it. Those things take on a life of their own.
