Road to Hana.

Good morning Hawaii!

We set out early for the Road to Hana. From the road (not yet on the Road to Hana) south of Lahaina, Kyle spotted a whale - while driving. So we pulled over at the lookout to watch the whales for a few windy minutes. February is the height of whale season, they come here to have their babies and stay for awhile teaching their babies how to survive - eating, swimming, jumping, gaining about 150 lbs a day!

The twisty-curvy roads rocked B to sleep most of the day....

These ain't yo' mama's hostas...they're over a foot long each way.

Not your typical backyard trees either...this is the rainforest!

We were in search of a black sand beach - not there yet, this is a salt & pepper beach.

The drive very much reminded me of my time in India - the rainforest, the rain, the narrow twisting roads.... This bridge was in better shape than most of the bridges we went over in the Himalayas though.

The graffiti was so "nice". Seriously - stuff like respect the environment, pick up your trash, go slow...

We decided to go past Hana to see Charles Lindberg's grave....and as far as we could to the end of the road.

I absolutely LOVE this picture of B! We were walking around the cemetary.

At the gateway to the church was a massive tree. These trees grow roots down from the branches and it seems to be many trees grown into one, it's actually just one tree. The church was a tiny, tiny church - white and trimmed in teal with no decorations or niceties. There were only 14 people at Charles Lindberg's funeral and that probably filled half the church.

Not a pineapple, another large tree.

Could my mom have handled this drive? How about the view without all the mist?

Can we go to that beach, Kyle?

This red beach is red from the cedar.

Kyle attempted to break open a coconut by throwing it onto the rocks. It stuck. No coconut for us.

After a day in the rain, coffee sounded good. Ice cream even better.

And our poster child for Blue Tower's new product line: AudioMemories!

When we got back to the hotel, Zanna offered to watch B for a bit so that Kyle and I could take a walk. This is the hotel restaurant we ate at the first night.
