Oh boy...I woke up all wide-eyed and bushy-tailed at 5:55am this morning. *LOL* Dragged Charlie out of bed at 7am for a very short walk. When we got out to the poop spot, he just stood there looking at me like "Mommy, can we go back to bed now?" *LOL* So now he's been back under the covers for a few hours.
I know it's been forever and a day since I've LJ'd....I have kept up with the reading quite well, but haven't had time to sit down and type. The last 3 weeks have been a whirlwind with papers due, finals, a trip to Mississippi and interviewing for internships. What's the best of the latest news? That's hard to say....there's much.
First of all: I am done with all my undergrad classes! DONE! All I have left to graduate is a 3-credit internship. So I will be graduating in December 2006. I refuse to look up my specific graduation date yet, until I secure an internship. Grades for the last undergrad semester: 3.48
Animal Behavior: A
Intro. to Photography: A
Psychology of Cultural Diversity: A
Principles of Learning and Behavior: B
World Religions: B
Since finals have been done, I've had 2 interviews and traveled to Jackson, Mississippi for 4 days. ...Oh yeah, Kyle's parents were in town for a long weekend and we've had some other activities this weekend (graduations, BBQs, errands, recovering from getting sick in MS).
My first interview was for a "TEDDY Study Recruiter" position. The job is to work in Denver hospitals, talking with post-partum parents about donating their newborn child's cord blood to be tested for DMI (childhood diabetes) genetic markers. If found, the child is then enrolled in a 2-year study to evaluate genetic and environmental factors that go into the development of childhood diabetes. This job would be perfect for me because it would allow me to have one foot into research and one foot into the medical environment. It is exactly what I envision my dream job to be--only working in neurology or trauma. It sounded like she wanted to hire me on the spot, but still had to work out the summer schedule...with people quitting, maternity leave, taking classes, etc. This job would be 5-15 hours a week.
My second interview I got through Kelly Scientific (
http://www.kellyscientific.com). It is an internship with a generic pharmeceutics manufacturer, working in the quality control department....doing analytical chemistry. (Now the funny part about this is: Kyle's the one with the analyitcal chemistry degrees. My degree is a Bachlor of SCIENCE--note the "science" is a very important distinction--in Psychology.) The internship would entail 15 weeks of full-time work (15-40, flexible to my schedule). During the 15 weeks I would rotate through each part of the quality control / quality assurance lab...testing raw material, delivery materials and final product. In addition, I would be responsible for developing a new safety program for the lab (including procedures, first aid, prevention, ergonomics, building / lab needs, etc). At the end of my interviews, the woman that interviewed me told me that she wants to hire me for this position...and that she will send my information to the hiring person and he will be calling me this week to have me fill out the hiring paperwork. Why is this job perfect for me? They were very impressed with my extensive and diverse resume`. However, this is the missing link. If I ever want to get into research, this is what I need. I have the research development experience in classes and independent study, I have medical understanding through classes and work experience. Now is the time for me to pick up on the chemistry part of things--outside of Organic Chemistry I & II. I'm surprised that they even chose to bring me in for an interview, since my experience is all medical and neuroscience (psychology) related. I am amazed that I was hired on the spot!
So a week after finals are done and I have a full-time job. I need to type up a calendar for the summer of the hours I cannot work to get to my new boss. She said they can be very flexible with my training requirements and already-scheduled plans (ie. going home for wedding planning). She just needs to know when to expect me to be at work and when to expect me to be gone. I should be getting a call from Bob sometime today or tomorrow, to go fill out the rest of the paper work. Then I will be starting with orientation June 5th. YEaY!
So I have the next 2 weeks to work on wedding stuff....and all that stuff around the house that I never got around to doing: reading that stack of magazines, reorganizing the closet in the guest room, cleaning, catching up with the scrapbooking.... Believe me, there's plenty to keep me busy.
Anyways, speaking of keeping busy. I need to get my butt to the gym so I can shower before Kyle gets off work and we head up to Cheyenne for the afternoon. Toodaloos. Wedding update to come soon...as well as other random pictures. Anyone know of a good limo company in the Twin Cities area? How about a Savvi tux shop in the Coon Rapids area?
