OTW Election stuff

Oct 05, 2015 14:11

If you care about the AO3 or any of the OTW's projects, please vote in the upcoming election.

To Vote In The OTW Election

Voting will take place November 6-9.

If you have donated to the OTW since October 6 of last year, you are eligible to vote. Otherwise, please go and donate $10 before October 6 (that's tomorrow!) so you will be eligible to vote.

If you aren't sure, contact DevMem to ask if you are eligible to vote.

Endorsement

I will be ranking the following candidates and no others (listed here in alphabetical order, not my ranking order):

Matty Bowers, AO3 Abuse and Support
Aline Carrão (LilyC), OTW Translation, Tag Wrangling and AO3 Support
Atiya Hakeem/Lady Oscar, AO3 Support and Accessibility, Design & Technology
Katarina Harju (tinypinkmouse), AO3 Abuse and OTW Translation
Alex Tischer, OTW Translation, Tag Wrangling and AO3 Support

I have personally worked with Atiya and Matty, both of whom are smart, trustworthy, good communicators, and effective collaborators, people who do good work themselves and enable good work from other people. People I have worked closely with in the org have vouched for Alex, Aline, and Katarina to me as well, and I have seen the positive results of their work.

About Future Elections

I will add that while it's great we have a contested election this time, we've had a lot of people get on the Board by default in the past few years with no oversight.

I would really like to see an added step in the process for future Board members that would allow the current committee chairs to veto any potential Board member beforehand by majority vote. If most of the committee chairs don't think you are someone they could work with, you shouldn't be on the Board, regardless of whether that means there is a contested election or not, or even enough candidates to fill available seats.

Comments off on this one, sorry! Come to the previous post and talk to me about Solas instead! :P
