Ah yes, the classic diversion technique. "Look! A juggling zebra!"

Didn't we outgrow that in junior high? I guess not. :(

I've been on the 'net a long time, and I can say with confidence that no, many people haven't outgrown junior high. In fact, I think the internet has given many people an excuse to behave like they're still 14.

Personally, I think it's terrible that people are encouraging each other to starve themselves, but they have a right to do it; if one is truly a free speech advocate, that means you support the rights of people who disagree with you.

It's pretty sad, but I agree with you. I see the things that people write in comments, and wonder if they'd have the guts to say that in person!

Word. Word and a half, even. I'm so angry with LJ I can't hardly think straight, but this sure isn't going to make me any less angry.

Although I must say I admire their targeting skillz.

But THOSE people are worse than US so you should be going after THEM instead

Yeah, that's what's been bothering me too. There have been "you should ban X instead!" outcries from the start, and gah, don't these people recognise what they're doing?!

Wait, what? There's a petition?

'Cause I'm all for pointing to pro-ana groups to illustrate LJ's hypocrisy, but the point of that is to say "if you don't ban them, you shouldn't ban us," not "go and ban them too."

Which isn't to say I think the pro-ana groups are okay (and yes, I cared about them before now, mostly thanks to a step-brother who works with adolescents with eating disorders and got my help doing some research about pro-ana groups online for his doctoral dissertation), but have never been very interested in banning speech). But.

There's a petition?

:/

That seems so unwise. "Look! Our pornographic Harry Potter fan art is nothing compared to this!"

*facepalm*

YES. THANK YOU. I mean, I understand people pointing out that it's hypocritical of lj to ban slash for "inciting harm" when they have no problem with many other types of groups that might incite harm more than us. But when you start actively saying that lj SHOULD ban those groups, you have crossed a massive line and also completely lost sight of what you were originally fighting for, which I HOPE was First Amendment protection and not just Harry/Draco! As important as H/D is.

Oh wow, I see from another comment that apparently there's a petition now. *cries*
