yuletide treasure

Dec 27, 2006 21:35

I have to start by sending many hugs and thanks to the lovely anonymous people who sent me the virtual presents and mistletoe during the madness of Yuletide, which really brightened the moments of harried stress so very much. These virtual gifts are so silly in concept and so wonderful in practice, and I squeeze them with glee.

I will also pimp here, yuletide_admin, which elynross and I have made because the main yuletide comm is getting (happily) flooded with many recs. That's where we will be making admin announcements from now on, so please do add it to your flist to watch (it's moderated and only for admin announcements -- it will be low-volume).

I am not doing the "guess my story and get a story" meme this year because (a) I fear I am totally busted for reasons which I will describe after the reveal, and (b) this past year is littered with the wreckage of various story/drabble/ficlet/meme promises I totally failed to deliver. Anyone who guesses all four stories I wrote will get some kind of prize, though, but I make that offer mostly because I am supremely confident that no one in the world without insider information can possibly do it. Hell, even if you can guess the one story I wrote for my actual assignment vs pinch hits/stocking stuffers. (Hint: manga. Good luck! ha ha)

(Speaking of which, coffeeandink, Cantarella is fabulous and I must have more.)

I am trying to remember to save my favorite yuletide stories to my del.icio.us, which I am tentatively beginning to use and love, and I like the feel of doing recs this way, even though I don't entirely love the format of the pages. (Does anyone know if there is a way to customize the layout of your delicious pages/entries?) I like that it feels less like standing up and making a pronouncement of "these are the greatest stories" and more like letting someone just peek over your shoulder and see what you're feeling particularly into at the moment.

I am however going to brag some more here about A Heaven In Hell's Despair, my own story all for me, which is a fabulous plotty sexy Sonny/Vinnie AU of Marriage of Heaven and Hell/No One Gets Out Of Here Alive, that anyone even a little bit into Wiseguy should seriously run not walk to read.

"Vinnie, slow down, what, am I paying you by the hour?" Sonny said, pulling him up; and he was back in the here and now, grounded by that solid, familiar touch. Something inside him relaxed, a clench of fear or disgust he hadn't even noticed anymore, it had been there for so long. This was Sonny, not some asshole with a knife.

"No way you could afford me," he said, grinning, and the truth of it hit him hard: the days when his body was just another bargaining chip were over. This was his choice, his own goddamn bad decision to make: He was going to give Sonny up, when the time came, but he could let himself have this, just once.

Also for Wiseguy fans, let me mention the story hafital got this year, Dread of Desolation, a sad wistful Vinnie/Roger with huge elements of Vinnie/Sonny, and link you to all the Wiseguy yuletide stories past and present.

wiseguy, yuletide
