That might have very well been the first Spanish movie I've seen, and most definitely the first Spanish fantasy movie I've ever seen. Very refreshing and different.

The level of realistic pain and blood was practically French. No nudity though, so obviously it wasn't French. The fantasy bits were very realistic and creepy and sooooo far from cutesy that it wasn't until the very end that you can be certain about their motives -- are they good or are they bad? <.< >.> The fascist captain (it's set in Franco's Spain) was so damn scary that he made me look away on occasion. *flinches*

If you get a chance, do go and see it. Just bear in mind, this is no Narnia.
