I never thought my self-taught, nerdy-curiosity would get me anywhere in life. But, if I get offered the job I interviewed for today, and being offered that job is getting me to the aforementioned 'anywhere', then that's exactly what it did.
I interviewed this afternoon to assist in the software development department of St. Jude Medical. Much of the experience I dazzled them with when they sat me in front of a computer were things I've taught myself through maintaining my LiveJournal and my MySpace; the formulas, the codes, the charts. Being a proud owner of "CSS Format for Dummies" literature probably didn't hinder my eloquence in the interview at all either.
I must say, however, trying to communicate with 40 year-old men who went to school for 4 years in 1975 to learn the things people of my generation just KNOW because it's become our culture, is interesting. That was actually one of the answers to their question, "How do you know how to formulate this?" ..."Well, how is it that I walk? I don't know how. I just do."
There's this horrible Pizza Hut commercial with Jessica Simpson weezing something about Poppable Pizza on it. She's sensually serving this creation to a 12 year old boy and all the while I'm watching this I just want to say, "Don't eat the Poppable, dear little red haired child! Jessica's hair was blown all over it by the artificial wind being produced in the studio just moments ago." And it's true.
I weathered the torrential rains late last night and went to pick up Tiny from LAX. Sometimes she makes me frustrated. Like this morning when we woke up to find there was no power in our house due to the storms and she asked, "wait. Can I still make toast?" Or like when she suggested, "We should get satellite TV so we can at least watch television when the power goes out." But, really, I miss her when she's gone.
