Holidazed
The Fourth of July was a low-key affair. I'd initially thought to run down to NoVa for the celebratory cook-out at the Bungalow, but ambition deserted me in the face of the sweltering heat, and I instead joined pals Pete and Mimi at their place for grilled steak, sweet corn, and mojitos, with a side of Galaxy Quest.
On the 5th, I trooped up to New Jersey to visit with fileg and notarysojac, and Lee Moyer, who was doing a whirlwind tour of the Northeast with gf Venetia. The Ladies Cram also graced the gathering. Had a swell time! Played some games, including Cards Against Humanity, a swell game a bit like MadLibs in which the three girls - Venetia, Jen and myself - tied for the win, and a tile-based word game - the name of which escapes me - which was very fast and fun and at which Lee demolished us.
Chris and Christopher joined us for dinner at the Golden Dawn Diner, and Christopher returned with us to the apartment, where Terri and Melissa joined us for a few hours of chat. Turned in at about 2AM, then got up for breakfast with Lee, Venetia and Terri, before loading Lee and Venetia in my car and taking them into the Upper West Side to Michael Kaluta's apartment. Had a very nice if short visit with Mike, who I hadn't seen since SciCon a bajillion years ago, then drove Lee and Venetia up to 107th for their lunch rendezvous. Then down West End Ave. to the Lincoln Tunnel and home! Spent the rest of Friday afternoon and evening hiding out in Cap'n Bhil's air-conditioned cellar, watching vids.
Saturday we went out to see The Amazing Spider-man, which was way better than I expected, and had the extra attraction of being in an air-conditioned theater.(Anybody sensing a theme here? I swear, we have GOT to get central air in the house or global warming's going to do for us!) Maybe a review later, but I do recommend it. Stay for BOTH cookies at the end - we scarpered too soon and missed the second one. Then back to Cap'n Bhil's for more steak and vids. Today, trying to keep cool at home while maybe accomplishing a few small tasks.
All in all, it was an enjoyable time off. Not looking forward to work tomorrow... this is the week we move to the new site, so I expect chaos will reign.
