Earworm of a different kind

I’ve had earworms before - you know, that song you can’t get out of your head, that keeps looping and re-looping and if there is a merciful god, it’s a song where you know ALL the lyrics and not just two lines out of the chorus? But this may be the first time I’ve ever had an entire movie as an earworm.

I’ve now seen The Avengers twelve times, and I have vast swaths of dialogue… hmm, “committed to memory” makes it sound like I was trying very hard, but the truth is it just sort of rolled into my brain and never rolled back out. Now I’m prone to have entire scenes going through my head at odd and not always convenient times. It started slowly, with all the dialogue from my favorite character out of all the Avengers - that would be Agent Phil Coulson, for those of you who haven’t been paying attention - but the rest of the dialogue has been accreting gradually around that core until I find that my inner ear is nearly as likely to be hearing Powers Booth saying, “This is out of line, Director. You’re dealing with forces you can’t control.” as Clark Gregg's geeky, “I've got to say, it's an honor to meet you... officially. I sort of met you - I watched you while you were sleeping. I mean I was present while you were unconscious... from the ice. Just a huge honor... ” (Nearly. I mean, he’s Phil.)

So as a mental exercise I’ve begun writing the dialog down, best as I can remember it. With whatever detail I can recall about scenes. Just for amusement’s sake. Because I’m an obsessed, demented fangirl.

fangirl, avengers, obsession
