Hi all, I was wondering to what degree other aspies experience anxiety as it's probably the most restrictive aspect of my condition and yet I don't think it's one of the main criteria for diagnosing asperger's.
The type of anxiety I experience is continuous but is generally worse when within groups of people and people I don't know. This is something that's just there 24/7 and has always been the case as far back as I can remember - even as a very young toddler starting school. It's very restrictive when working because I find it nigh on impossible to concentrate and feel like I'm constantly on edge - this of course makes me exhausted by the end of each day.
Now at the age of 34 I did some research earlier in the year and tried out various vitamin supplements based on some of my findings. One paper I found showed that 3 x 1g doses of vitamin C could reduce stress(this is in the general population, not an autism study):
Blood pressure Cortisol Stress Ascorbic acid Trial There's a bit more to this story than I'm describing here but what basically happened was I took large doses (up to 3 x 5g/day) of vitamin C for a while and the anxiety was totally gone. Right now (5 months on) I've been on a reduced dose of 5g/day for 2 months or so without any significant return of anxiety. This has been a major event for me and I was wondering if any others had any thoughts on this.
I hope of haven't annoyed anyone bringing up viamin supplements as I know it can be a controversial subject, but given my experiences I thought it was worth mentioning here.
Thanks for reading.
