Tips For Autistics From An Autistic

Feb 08, 2008 22:03

Alright, well I've been told what to post and what not to post here, so here are the tips I can give that are appropriate to this community:

1.) Follow a gluten free, anti-candida diet. It's alot of information, far more than would be appropriate to post here, so just do a google search on both terms.

2.) Eat foods rich in vitamin B, like chicken and lamb. Take vitamin B supplements also, they're very important too. People on the spectrum often have vitamin B deficiency, and need extra vitamin B.

3.) Don't get behavior modification therapy! As I know you will agree, this "therapy" is just really a way to torture people on the spectrum. If a school insists your child on the spectrum get this "therapy", take legal action against the school.

4.) Beware of stimulants! Some of you are probably on psychoactive drugs, but I have found all stimulants, like stratera for example, make me completely sleepless. People like us are sensitive to medication, and stimulants are very harmful for people on the spectrum. Stimulants also include caffeine, nicotine, and similar substances.

5.) Follow a regular bedtime routine. Be in bed by 9:30 and try to sleep at least 9 hours a night. Sleep is when the body repairs itself, so it's crucial we get as much as we can.

I hope this helps, and I can't imagine these tips are offensive to anyone.
