So, I've decided that rather than wait for my psychiatrist referral to go through, get settled into therapy, and finally figuring out my job situation, I want to try to get disability benefits. Mostly Social Security, but seeing as I live in a fairly "blue" state (New York), state benefits may be something to look into as well. Really, the problem is that me and my partner need money, like yesterday. We aren't going to make it well on his income alone. We aren't making it well right now, honestly.
So does anyone have any resources, such as Web sites or advocacy organizations that could help me out? I have been to the Social Security Administration's Web site and it is pretty sparse on information about disability benefits. Can anyone share experiences, what to expect, what to look out for?
Thanks in advance.
