My Harry Potter conclusion

Jul 23, 2007 13:57

As many of you know, I am an obsessive Jane Austen reader. One thing about her novels which has spoilt me for nearly every other novel, is that at the end of each novel, she has a very well written concluding chapter, which is not a happily every after, but briefly outlines the good and bad parts of each major character's future. Since HP7 didn't do that for the important questions I had, I'm going to write one myself.

I'm happy for this to be a collaborative work. If you don't like the para I've written, please feel free to write your on in the comments. If I left out someone, please also comment one below. I only ask that you make realistic given the background of the novels. Ie, don't make someone who has had no inclination towards theatre suddenly turn around and become a cabaret dancer or something.

The wizarding world was in shock for some while after the downfall of Voldemort, and took time to grieve over the loss of family and acquaintence who died as a consequence. Percy Weasley was asked to head a newly formed Department of Muggle-Born Reconciliation within the Ministry of Magic. Many of the former Order of the Phoenix members and graduating Hogwarts students from Dumbledore's Army began to work for this Department, performing jobs such as providing assistance to estranged Muggle-Borns, improving Muggle-Wizard relations, and assisting the aurors in arresting former Death Eaters.

I would delight in informing my readers that all Death Eaters were sent to Azkaban, however as in Voldemort's previous downfall, many claimed to be under the imperious curse. Others such as the Malfoy's had it taken into consideration that they had attempted to withdraw from the Death Eaters. As the Dementors were no longer loyal to the Ministry of Magic, the dragon which was released from Gringrotts was contacted, and several of his kin became the new guards.

After Professor Snape's death, Professor McGonagall was immediately pronounced to be the new Head of Hogwarts. As a stricter educator than her predecessors, she insisted that exams be held, in spite of recent events, however delayed them for a fortnight. Professor Flitwick set to the task of rebuilding Hogwarts after battle-caused destruction.

Harry, Ron and Hermione, having not completed their education, returned to Hogwarts the next year to complete their NEWTS. Harry and Ron gained 7 NEWTS, and teased Hermione for being destraught at gaining 8 Outstanding NEWTS, but coming second to Harry once again with an Excellent in Defence Against the Dark Arts.

Both Harry and Ron earned their dearest wish of becoming Aurors. Hermione was offered important jobs in the Ministry of Magic, but kept with her ambition of expanding SPEW. In light of the charge lead by Kreacher in the Battle of Hogwarts, elvish welfare gained public attention, and with the assistance of many notable organisations, she was able to set up an office in London, and after establishing a Union of Elves on Hogwarts, was able to employ elves to assist in campaigning for elvish rights.

The Weasley family was naturally devastated by the death of Fred, in particular George, who had trouble in maintaining Weasleys Wizarding Wheezes. He temporarily hired Lee Jordan, who became such an asset to the store, that he worked for the store permanently. Mr Weasley requested, and was granted, his former job in the Office of Misuse of Muggle Artifacts. In spite of returning to lower pay, he was more satisfied with this arrangement, and the advent of all their children coming of age ensured that expensive Hogwarts robes and spell books became unneccesary purchases.

After Ginny graduated from Hogwarts, she and Harry settled in 12 Grimmauld Place and had 3 children, James, Albus Severus and Lily. Kreacher had been offered a position with SPEW, but was unable to overcome his ingrained dislike of Muggle-borns. Instead he continued to work for the Potter Household, and took pride in the gleaming benchtops and burnished copper pots in the kitchen. Mrs Black was never able to be removed, but inhabitants learned to appreciate her as one of the idiosyncracies of the house.

Living in Godric's Hollow were Ron and Hermione and their two children Rose and Hugo, who were spoilt as could be by their Grandmother, as was their cousin, Bill and Fleur's daughter Victoire. As Draco Malfoy was also working for the Ministry of Magic, Harry and Ron regularly saw him, however the former enemies learned to stay a respectful distance, and when Draco's son Scorpio was born, the news was only found out second hand.

Teddy Lupin continued to live with his Grandmother wile Harry completed his education, and the arrangement suited both so well, that they continued, in spite of a standing offer from the Potters to move to Grimmauld Place. Instead, Teddy was a regular visitor at Grimmauld Place, and was seen as much a part of the family as Harry was of the Weasley family.

As for the Dursleys, while Uncle Vernon and Harry wished to remain apart, Harry was able to have occasional meetings with Aunt Petunia and Dudley on neutral ground. Too many years of animosity existed between them, not to mention Aunt Petunia's distaste of the wizarding world after her rejection from Hogwarts, for Harry to be truly close to his Aunt and cousin, however they were able to meet with a degree of cordiality.

Neville Longbottom became Professor of Herbology when Professor Sprout retired. After marrying Luna Lovegood, she set up in Hogsmeade, and continued the work her father did in editing The Quibbler.

I would rather reveal that there was little work for Harry and Ron to carry out as aurors, but the effort over nearly one thousand years of wizards, beginning with Salazar Slytherin, attempting to instill Pure-Blood supremacy over the wizarding population at large, was too deeply ingrained to be removed by the mere death of Voldemort. All that the efforts of the Department of Muggle-Born Reconciliation could not wipe out the intrinsic distaste of muggles that those such as the Malfoys carried. While Harry never felt the touch of his scar again, proving that Voldemort really had been killed, he had still to learn to take pride in the name of Mudblood, as Hermione did.
