Last Monday evening (10th) I experienced numbness (in sequence) right hand, right arm, right chest, right leg and right foot for about 40 minutes - then it disappeared (also in sequence, first hand, then arm, chest, leg, and foot).
Rousted my GP out of a sound sleep - and, taking his counsel (to err on the side of caution) I went to the ER Monday evening.
Bottomline : false alarm - all the kings horses and all the kings men couldn't find ANY indication of
TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack = minor stroke) or Stroke - or any suggestion that I might be at risk for a future stroke - Good news!.
Tests/Images conducted:
CT of brain
MRI of brain
Ultrasound of carotid arteries
CT of brain with contrast dye
MRI of brain with contrast dye
MRI of thoracic spine (to rule out pinched/damaged nerve)
(results all unremarkable)
full set of blood work (5 vials) every morning x 4
So, although the four days in the hospital seemed non-productive, it provided a pretty complete bill of health RE: stroke - for brain and brain blood supply.
Additionally, as a result of the in patient visit - and referrals to other specialists - I now have a relationship with
-- Oncologist for cancer follow up (Hodgkins IVB 1978 and Left Kidney 1997)
-- Neurologist for continued follow up for this event - and for pursuing elimination of migraines
