Perhaps a long shot, perhaps not.
I just read through the entire book Demons Don't Dream by Piers Anthony, expecting and anticipating a particular scene, only to finish the book and realize that it doesn't exist in that book.
Basically, my sister and I were reading books out loud when I was in late elementary school- early-mid 90's. One of them was Demons Don't Dream, but I don't remember any of the other ones. Maybe something Mercedes Lackey, but it doesn't seem to fit. It was definitely fantasy... We rarely finished a book together, but we started quite a few...
So the scene I'm looking for is something along the lines of:
Party in the book arrive at a cave of sorts that has some magical spell/attribute that dilates time, and in order to cross they have to eat "seeds of thyme" - one of which, the one I remember because I was small and it was funny when said aloud- was called a 'sec', so the people were eating 'secs' to get through. It definitely sounds like a Piers Anthony pun, but I know there are more punnish fantasy authors out there...
Anyone have a clue?
and barring that, what should I read next? My sister has a store of Mercedes Lackey and Anne McAffery. I have a pretty wide range of book appreciation, but I really like fantasy and humor.
Books I've read within the past 2 years and really liked:
Hitchhiker's guide (and the rest)
Memoirs of a Geisha
Everything is Illuminated
Chronicles of Narnia
A Year in the Merde
