My mum's dog (and the love of my life) is a English Springer Spaniel. He is a very active dog with very big ears and a lot of fur. Winter is almost here and I'm afraid that he will catch a cold because his ears are almost never completely dry. Another worry is that the dampness will cause a skin problem for him. I washed him yesterday and I spent ages trying to dry them (including putting socks on his ears to soak up the moisture). It is impossible to not get his ears wet: every time he follows a trail or pick up a stick they touch the ground. They dip into his water bowl when he drinks. He will get a fur trim on Wednesday so at least after that they will dry up a little quicker.
Do you have any ideas on how to keep his ears from getting wet or how to dry them up quicker?
He would probably not appreciate a hair dryer. This is him after his bath yesterday (looking a bit more unkempt than usual but oddly he didn't mind the socks).
This is how he usually looks after a fur trim (but this was taken in May and I'm afraid if we trim him this short again he will freeze).
