I made the horrible mistake of trying to paint my dining room deep wine red. Wow. 3 coats later and I've given up. It's still blotchy and I given up hopes of it ever being a solid red.

I've accepted that, and have decided to sponge or rag to make it intentionally blotchy.

But do I use a darker color, or a lighter color? I would think a darker color, but I don't want to mess things up even more. Also, what technique is easiest and looks the best? A sea sponge? Do I use part glaze in my paint?

If anyone watches The Painted House, I am going to the look featured in Haute Cuisine - the black and red kitchen. My table and buffet are dark wood, and my table has a faux marble top in grays and dark greens with brown mixed in. My chairs are black leather no-arm chairs.

In addition to the painting, I am going to hang painted plaster designs (I'm thinking a fleur de lis) done in the same colors as the walls, but with a black antique look, as show on The Painted House. Would Hobby Lobby carry these molds?

On other question - where is a good place to obtain solid window clings? Maybe a custom-designed one?

I'm stuck right now. If anyone can give me some advice, I would appreciate it.
