Asians on New Zealand TV.

Asians are frequent guest stars on non-fiction shows such as Highway Patrol and Filth Files. Our antics on these two very informative shows highlight two of our more licentious characteristics: bad driving, and an inability to keep a clean workspace. If you think our kitchens are bad, you should see our garages!

There have been just two main Asian characters on Shortland Street: both female, both doctors. In fact, one even started off as an international student and look how far she got in this land of opportunity!!! Sadly, she got killed off earlier this year, probably for being a stereotype. Other recurring Asian characters have usually been gang members and/or bad drivers and are usually "fresh". Over on Outrageous Fortune the Asian characters have been, surprise surprise, gang memebers and skanky whores. They probably have degrees in accounting. You know, as a back-up.

Then there's that wise old Chinese actor that pops up in shows like The Insider's Guide to Happiness as a wise old Chinese man.

The point of this post? I don't have a back-up degree in accounting so I guess I'm screwed and therefore "not a real Asian". Or something.

television, asian, random crap
