Who's got love for ya?

So...the birthday weekend that was:

It started on Friday with the Zombie Walk.

There was quite a big turnout, though having it later in the day would've meant a larger army of the undead (harder! better! faster? stronger!). Nonetheless it was a strange and entertaining experience and I really hope they hold another one here next year. Auckland is having their inaugural Zombie Walk on Halloween and it's a night walk.

Had a quick dinner at home on Friday night where I requested my favourite dish - sweet & sour pork - to the dismay of my father. Mum and Dad had dancing and Leight wanted to watch the game so I headed down to Whitcoulls to use my discount vouchers. I picked up the just-released Six Feet Under: Season 5 DVD at 20% off. Score! So it was a pretty good birthday - zombies, book shopping, sweet & sour pork - what more could a boy hope for?

Worked most of Saturday, but took the afternoon off to attend the launch of three books by fellow MA students from last year. Michele was the sole representative for our class and it felt so strange to be holding her book after watching the poems develop as a folio last year. Even stranger was standing in line to get my book signed. Another classmate said that I'd be next to publish a book (which was quickly corrected to "Actually, Angela's next, but you'll be after her!") and it made me a little anxious, cause even though I've been writing steadily for the last few months I have no idea exactly where I am with this current draft. And then I panicked cause I realised all I write about is dead Chinese people and there's hardly an audience for that, right?

Later that night we had an enjoyable dinner at Harem, the new Turkish restaurant above Dick Smiths on Manners. Not bad, a little pricey but the food was good and we had our own little nook to ourselves which was probably just as well as our dinner conversation took some rather - ahem - controversial twists as the evening progressed.

We headed off to Matterhorn for drinks. Ended up at Electric Avenue for a little dance and more drinks, before getting home at the respectable time of 2:20. If you were one of the lucky few to receive drunken incoherent messages from me you might want to save those texts - they may be the best poetry that's ever come out of me.

At 24 I have only just learned that even though it is fanciful and exciting to try cocktails of different colours, you're probably best to just stick with one, or two at the most. Also, these new pants I wore last night have the most complicated fastening system ever invented. Frustrating, especially when one must use the bathroom. There were a few times where I had to hold it in and wait for a stall cause I didn't want people to think I was giving away a free show at the urinals.
