ROFLcon, day 2 (with further updates for day 1)

retroactive day 1 updates:

After yesterday's post, I went home to get some work done for my lab (bleagh) then headed out to the Middle East for the ROFLcon concert. The acts were, in order: Denny Blaze, Lemon Demons, Trocadero, Leslie Hall, and Group X. We were in the MIddle East upstairs, and thanks to the lovely X (my friend Christina from Harvard, one of the organizers), I got to meet David Lloyd of OCRemix fame! Apparently OCRemix (as in the entire community) will be creating the soundtrack to the new Street Fighter 2 videogame - awesome!

Once inside, the concert was totally BALLAH. All of the acts played the songs that made them famous on the internet (think Average Homeboy, Red v. Blue, Ultimate Showdown, etc). Several awesome things of note:

- During Denny Blaze's act, there was a mysterious bespectacled man wearing a CBS jacket that unabashedly leaned onto - no, flat out stood up on - the stage to take video footage of the Average Homeboy. It was incredible and awesome and somewhat sketchy; the old man was very austere looking, and he was using a small, not so great, consumer quality camcorder. It wouldn't have been so sketchy had he been using an obviously prosumer or commercial camera. At the end of Denny Blaze's act, the crowd started chanting "CBS! CBS!" - again, awesome. Turns out, the CBS man is Denny Blaze's father and manager - Rockin'.

- They played "Never gonna give you up" of RickRolling fame during one of the act changeovers, and everyone in the crowd started dancing and singing along. It was pretty sweet, and made getting rick rolled all those times worth it - almost.

- During Leslie Hall and the LY's (think gem sweaters), the con coordinator, Tim, was called up on stage, and was given a lapdance - !!!!. That was pretty freakin' sweet; his facial expressions were utterly priceless.

- Hearing Lemon Demons perform "The Ultimate Showdown" live - and having everyone in the crowd, including myself, sing along - was probably one of the best concert experiences of my life.

- Making it through Group X's act taught me that I'm much more willing to put up with a high level of fucked up shit than I thought. They made a guy eat an entire loaf of bread under the assumption that he would get a MacBook for it, then they proceeded to smash the Macbook onstage. Wow. I felt pretty bad for bread-muncher.

Then we went back to sr house and watched Idiocracy, because Safia didn't get why the ubiquitous nature of Brawndo at ROFLcon was hilarious. If you don't know what I'm talking about, imdb Idiocracy. Anyway, at the concert the tap at the pub had a sign on it that said free Brawndo while it lasts. Turns out some guy thought it would be awesome to have this drink in real life, spent $300,000 to buy the rights and manufacturing capabilities for it, and brought to ROFLcon to distribute willy-nilly. Again, awesome.

Updates for today:
I didn't actually go to much of ROFLcon today, seeing as how I had to go to my UROP and help prep desserts for Steer Roast (which is next week, ahhhh!). But the closing panel consisted of Randall Monroe(xkcd), Ryan North(dinosaur comics), and moot(4chan). Won't rehash everything they said - you can find video of the whole thing online at roflcon.org - but I have to say it was cool to meet the guys behind the comics (and in moot's case, the 4chan network). One major highlight - not only did Randall Monroe get moot to do a barrell roll, he got the /entire room/ to do a barrell roll! That was fun :D

There's a dance party tonight, but it's in Allston, so I don't know if I'm going to make it out there. We'll see ^.^.
