Jung Yunho grew up in worse than unfortunate conditions. A country boy at heart, he's had to work hard at a young age to make money for his family, has been homeless at one point, and all of that hardship has really molded him into the person he is today. Yunho's a natural born leader. He's a perfectionist because he isn't perfect, and he acknowledges it himself. I tend to think he's perfect, what with the clumsy forgetfulness, adoration for kids, comic book character-like romanticism, magnetic charisma, and enough sexy for you to choke and die on, but that's why I'm biased. :(
Shim Changmin's a city boy who grew up with two teachers for parents. He likes to study and be (more) intelligent (than his bandmates) and you would think that that would lead to a life of quiet academics, but instead, he chose to sing. After sneaky Angel Xiah stole his role as cutiepie magnae of the group, Changmin decided to just let it go and rely on his vicious rhetoric to cut into people's hearts and weasel himself in. I exaggerate, but really, he's sarcastic and witty and funny in ways that make you cover your mouth and giggle. He expresses love for food more than anything/anyone else. But despite that hard exterior, Changmin is adorably shy, softspoken around people he doesn't know well, and has a huge, squishy heart dedicated to helping out his hyungs in the seemingly least affectionate ways possible.
Together, they make up precious Homin Couple, aka Minho Couple, Model Mates, Tall Brothers, and my OTP. ♥
summary
I know that a lot of people say they don't get this couple, or that they have difficulty seeing it because they always think of them as appa and son, but if so, then I'm afraid Changmin would be the daddy of that relationship, lol.
The reason I love this couple so much is because of their subtlety. They're not a popular pairing which means there's no need or pressure to lay on the fanservice. You don't see them interact too much on camera, but for me, that's where their charm lies. When you do see interaction, it's voluntary and genuine. When you see them talk or hug or laugh or dance together cheek to cheek and it's only caught on fancams and sasaeng photos, you get a feeling that it isn't contrived and forced.
Changmin strikes me as the kind of guy who likes being a manly man. He insists that he has no aegyo and is incapable of producing any, and he doesn't like to be touched a lot. That said, Yunho--who is conveniently squished against Changmin's side in group formation--adores touching and hugging people, probably because he draws comfort out of tactile sensation and he's too fidgety to know how to keep his hands to himself. When he touches Changmin, Changmin never pulls away. When Jaejoong tries to touch Changmin, Changmin usually punches him. Despite all of Yunho's touching, hand-holding, thigh-groping, and personal space-invading, Changmin just breezes through it with a smile. It's not about respecting an elder, I just like to think that Changmin's bias towards Yunho tends to eclipse his own preferences. :') And it's obvious that Yunho babies the baby (re: all the touching, hand-holding, thigh-groping, and personal space-invading). The fact that he hasn't died for it or seems even mildly discouraged from continuing is probably because Changmin doesn't actually mind. ;)

From that giant heap of pictures and gifs, I hope it was easy to gather how much they adore each other, even if they're not completely obvious and fanservicey about it.
Before Changmin had to give up his cute magnae role, back when he was just starting out as this super shy and awkward teenager put in the spotlight, it was pretty easy to see how much he respected Yunho. I can't say if he ever thought Yunho was cool, but respectable for sure. Even with the constant teasing boys like to use to show affection for each other, Changmin was considerably nicer about it. And after he grew up and got sarcastic and tough, even then, he still leaned into Yunho's touches and allowed himself to get thigh-groped (all the time, goodness, yunho) despite telling Jaejoong that he doesn't like to be so close to dudes because seriously, he doesn't like dudes, seriously.
I can only speculate why Yunho always has stars in his eyes when he's around Changmin or talking about him. Maybe because Changmin's the eternal magnae, maybe because Changmin's the same age as Yunho's precious little sister, maybe he just thinks Changmin's hot like the rest of us, but Yunho's always been protective of his dongsaeng, quick to hand out compliments about being proud or loving him (see "best friends" video below, their Thanks To messages, KBS Champagne, Yunho's happy birthday message to Changmin, We Are Curious About TVXQ! - Changmin @ ~4:20, etc. forever) when he's admitted to very rarely praising his members otherwise. Yunho always seems to have something to gush about when it comes to Changmin. It's becoming a pretty intense soft spot but I'm sure Changmin doesn't mind.
They've both mentioned that the ways they think are quite similar to one another. They're best friends, get along well, I'm sure they have a lot of amazing conversations together, and they genuinely love to spend time together. As Yunho says himself, "We’ll eat together whenever we have time and play video games that we take from the staff, or we’ll watch DVDs and sports programs, and argue with one another" (Ginger Magazine). It's easier to do all this since they seem determined to live together forever.
Which, by the way, they've done since 2003. Why won't they live separately? Good question, don't ask me. In multiple videos and magazines, they've said themselves that they "mutually understand each other just by looking into each other's eyes," consider each other to be close enough to be counted as family, unknowingly depend on each other, and balance each other out with Changmin being the water to Yunho's fire. Multiple interviewers and MCs have likened them to a couple/boyfriend and girlfriend/spouses/lovers...which they keep having to deny in order to maintain an ambiguous stance towards heterosexuality. (BAILA 2011, 110921 M-ON! Monthly Icon, 111007 Bokura no Ongaku, 111009 Music Japan Special, and most other magazines and videos released after late 2011...orz).
They also wear each other's underwear. The comments on their couple-like cohabitation aren't unfounded; they like to talk openly about wearing each other's underwear, bickering about trivial things like leaving the door ajar or squeezing toothpaste from the middle of the tube rather than the end, how Yunho likes to play with Changmin while Changmin sleeptalks and then got hit one time which implies that they were for whatever reason sleeping rather close to each other despite having separate rooms, and this was all just from one show (see 111015 Meringue no Kimochi).
But, like Changmin says, cohabitation with a male companion leads to such stories and stresses.
What's so fun about the two of them is that there's always playfulness. Yunho, as much as he tries to seem like a tough badass, is a clumsy, dorky, forgetful, and adorably sweet guy, all the more endearing because he tries so hard (and fails) to hide it. He forgets his wallet all the time, leaves his phone in random places, and Changmin, arguably the more mature one, will often make up for that with some help and a giant portion of teasing and mockery. Even if he is the magnae, even if he does respect Yunho a lot, it definitely doesn't cut down the mocking/teasing time. Yunho takes it all in great stride, he seems to enjoy it a fair bit, laughing hard and embarrassed whenever Changmin teases him (see AADBSK3 couple talk, "yunho just can't not touch" video below, 111015 Meringue no Kimochi's Changmin's private footage, and...most interviews). I suppose this is only fair since Yunho has such restless, wandering hands. basically, don't ask me who tops.
But in all seriousness, they're very sweet to each other. It's just the two of them now and I can only imagine how much deeper and stronger their bond has become after enduring many trying hardships--the lawsuit, stagnation, depression, crazy antis--together. Romantic or platonic, it's safe to say these two love each other very much, and that this is a friendship that will endure.
In am interview filled with surprising candor, Yunho and Changmin opened up about the trials they faced during and after the lawsuit; the shocking anxiety, the nervous excitement, the stubborn will to continue and succeed and simply exist. This lengthy interview for their El Sol Photobook touched on some of their innermost thoughts, and the point that really stood out was their interdependence and faith in each other. As Yunho puts it, "Truthfully, there's one more thing I want to say to him, and that's 'I love Changmin,' but that's embarrassing so I won't say it (he laughs). I don't think Changmin will request those words anyway. But, that's the Changmin I love because I believe in him entirely." And as Changmin says, "What I want to tell Yunho is that with our relationship as it is, compromising with each other, understanding each other, working even harder in each thing we do for work, we'll prove to the world that the path we're walking wasn't the wrong one. If I'm with Yunho, I believe we can do it. It's just this." Read the full interview. It's worth every word.
Despite being polar opposites in personality, Changmin says himself that he and Yunho share the same values, understanding, acceptance, and that's why they have a good balance. In fact, their relationship is something that Changmin dislikes having to play up their friendship for the cameras, because "in reality, our bond isn't that cheap."
I know, I know, too much serious business. Well, speaking of playing up their bond, in early 2012, Yunho and Changmin held their Japanese arena tour, TONE. At each leg, they performed a homoerotic skit called "Bibaru and Lui" (play on BL, or boys love, the "innocent" precursor to yaoi lbr). The point is, one approaches the other in hopes of getting it on, only to be sadly cockblocked by someone walking in on them. Yunho and Changmin even switched it up in their performances, embracing each other, whispering hotly in each other's ears, sometimes even performing twice in one concert just so they each get a chance to..."top." Watch them get super close on a clip from the TONE DVD (~10:00). Yes, management decided to immortalize this on DVD. x_x
Plus, Yunho clearly ships Homin couple. He calls Changmin his wife. Changmin appears to be okay with this, seeing as how he says that everything is okay as long as he's with Yunho because he feels good with him. Plus, "Yunho is a part of his life" (BAILA 2011).

I don't have much else to say about this couple. If you're still not convinced, then I'm afraid that's that!
Precious Homin couple aren't about in-your-face fairytale romances. Changmin doesn't have tickets to that thing Yunho likes that magically turn into diamonds, and Yunho doesn't have a white stallion to carry Changmin off into the sunset on. They're a couple that you don't pay much attention to unless you're looking to the peripheries. But if you do care to see it, Yunho and Changmin are always there, the adorable couple of playful fail that always makes the day a little brighter. These days, since it's just the two of them, they shine a lot more both together and as individuals, and it's clear from their many interviews and interactions that they're very, very close. They only work together, stay over at each other's houses, go out to eat together, visit each other in different provinces when the other has work or a show, carpool together, have very similar personalities, and share thoughts/feelings/troubles with each other during deep bonding experiences as best friends. Whatever. :P
