This is going to be a long post...
Well, when I think things are going well enough for me at work, things have to go to hell. Our Store Manager quit recently, and the replace is a lazy dictator who gives orders and doesn't help out. Basically, he's that Weed guy from PnS. Its probably still too early to say how things are going to go, but I think it might be a good idea for me to begin looking for a new job just in case this does become another PnS.
(The new guy's last name is "Bender," so I think I'm going to try to get a nasty nickname going, like "Tin-grin" or "That Drunk Robot.")
I picked up "The World Ends with You" for Nintendo DS. Its actually a really interesting semi-hack-and-slash RPG with a twist: you (can) control two characters at once, one on the top screen with the D-Pad and another on the bottom with the stylus. The game has a rather anime-ish feel to it and a soundtrack that fits well with the setting (mostly J-Pop it seems.) To top it off, it does have an interesting and somewhat bizarre story. It doesn't seem very long though; you're supposed to play through seven (game) days and I'm on the sixth after about four.
Then again, this is on a portable system, so I imagine it wasn't meant to be very long.
Anyways, I have seen both of the new episodes of Doctor Who ("Planet of the Ood" and "The Sontaran Stratagem.") Both were good, though they still can't compare to "The Fires of Pompeii."
"Planet of the Ood" brings back the Ood introduced back in Series 2's "Impossible Planet/Satan Pit" two-part. Needless to say, it develops this apparent "slave race" and explains why they are the way they are. I really don't want to go into too much detail, but this was another "Wow" episode, mainly Donna's reaction to the truth. There's also a revelation at the end of the episode that hints to things to come, either
the end of Tennant's run as the Doctor or the return of Rose... or both, though I really want to see Tennant try to last as long as Tom Baker did.
As for "Sontaran Stratagem," its sees the return of yet another classic Who advisary: the Sontarans. I wasn't quite as impressed with this episode but then again the cliffhanger ending probably didn't help. The episode also sees the return of Martha Jones from Series 3, now employed by UNIT, and who gets along surprisingly well with Donna. There are a number of good lines and scenes, and its even more amusing that members of Donna's family, her mother and grandfather, have already met the Doctor (her mother in Series 3's Christmas Special and her grandfather in Series 4's.)
Also watched all of "Sarah Jane Adventures," one of the two Doctor Who spin-offs (God Bless Youtube.) It does come off as a "Doctor Who Lite," being more of a kids' show than Doctor Who itself. Still, aside from the fact they used the Slitheen in the first two regular episodes of the series (damn farting aliens,) it actually was watchable (I was expecting it to be hyper-active and annoying.)
Anyways, finally trying to do some work on my latest attempt at insane multi-universe story writing. Been trying to work out a general plot or at least have an idea where I'm going to go with this. Might dust Universal Link off and use it for something... Check there if I post anything, though I'll probably make a note of it here.
