Ain't this just peachy

So I have an iPod. And with an iPod comes the nigh-requirement to use iTunes. Ok, so I use iTunes. It did what I needed. Note the past tense.
I recently "upgraded" to iTunes 5.0. This is a mistake you should refrain from making. I'm one of the lucky ones...so far the only problem is that it doesn't recognize (and therefore does not update) my iPod. I have been waiting patiently for several days for Apple to release a patch. Or to, y'know, acknowledge that the problem exists. Their website still exhorts people to download the "upgrade", even though the user forums are being flooded with complaints about it. There are a few people who have gone to a lot of trouble to find ways to fix the problem and have posted long and complicated instructions for how to solve the problem, but I'm one of those weirdos who think that software upgrades shouldn't be as complicated as Polyjuice Potion and require a dose of Felix Felicis to make them work properly. However, one thing that the "fixes" said to do was do Windows update. I hadn't done one in a while, so I said wtf and did updates on Windows and my antivirus program.

Not only did this not fix the problem, but now my computer doesn't even recognize the iPod as an external hard drive, like it used to.
[EDIT: This is why tech support always asks things like "is it plugged in?" The USB hub had a loose connection. *looks embarassed* The rest of the complaint is still valid, although it seems that Apple is actually doing something about it.]

Ain't technology grand?
