A catch-up post

So. Lotsa stuff happening in the last week, most of it bad.

The absolute worst was losing Safia.

The second worst was finding out I owe the IRS almost $900. And that's with my student loan interest deduction. I need to have a sit down with accounting to figure out what the deal is, because my W-4 already says what the tax-prep guy told me to change it to so as to not owe that much next year. I had all of about $100 extra to send in, so I'll need to set up a payment plan. Yay. For whatever reason (I guess he felt bad for me), Sub-Bossman told me to keep my OT and not use it or vacation for the 3 days off last week. So that means I'll have 29 hours of OT pay to help pay that.

The third worst was finding out upon my return to work on Monday that due to a misunderstanding (either mine or the print shop I'm not sure), the set had to be re-issued over the weekend. That ain't cheap, people. So far no one has looked askance in my direction. Crossing my fingers on this one.

The next worst thing was that, due to the above three, I got absolutely no sewing done. I am way, way behind now. The Kimball trip is the weekend after next, and Kentuckey Derby Day the following weekend. I am making one outfit to cover both, but I still have to have the majority finished for the 27th. It's not terribly complicated, but there is a bunch to do. I beleive I shall whinge about that in a later post.

There were a few good things.

The best was finding a cat online who is available for adoption and setting up a meeting at his foster-mom's home for this Sunday. I'm really looking forward to that. He's a big (to me, but all cats are big after Safia) black tom, 18 months old, and is described as very affectionate, intellegent, playful, and talkative. He sounds like the perfect cat for me. Hopefully he will like me as well, and will come home with me.

Another good thing was finally getting around to getting my tub and ice maker fixed. The tub faucet no longer leaks a stream of water. Unfortunately, the ice make was not fixed--it still leaks when on. So they are supposed to come back out today and work on it again. Now is a good time to get things worked on as there is not a cat to be confined while they work.

And another good thing is I'm doing some furniture rearranging that I'd been wanting to do. I hadn't yet because I didn't want to stress out Safia, and I really should get the major furniture moving done before a new cat comes. This rearranging required two trips for shelving, and evolved to include spring cleaning. I had no idea I had let the cleaning go for so long. I'm also taking the chance to get rid of some stuff. If anyone out there would like a free printer (it works fine but requires $60 worth of ink--you'll have to get that yourself) you are welcome to have it. I also have a 16th century hoopskirt that someone could take off my hands (it's based off the Alcega pattern, comes compelte with hoops). I cleaned out the clothes closet and have a bag of clothing to donate (anyone have a reccomendation in the Metroplex area? I would prefer a women's shelter). I'm selling a few books, dvds, and cds. I have a few more things to shuffle around and I'll be done. For now. This rearranging is in preparation for a new sofa and chairs, entertainment center, and TV. That will now have to wait because of the IRS thing, but eventually I will have a living room with comfortable seating for more than 2 people.

Y'all can now consider y'all's selves caught up.
