Chapter One

"These things are SO annoying!" It was a nice, sunny, breezy day in California and instead of shooting outside for a Smosh video or hanging out with old friends, Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla stayed in the Smosh household while Anthony was practicing walking around with crutches. He has gotten a sprained ankle from a car accident that happened not too long ago. He was also sustaining a massive head wound. Anthony has fallen down a few times because of his lack of coordination and poor balance. He was getting frustrated. "Why can't I just use the wheelchair in the garage? I move faster with that."
"We went through the trouble getting these crutches, man. Besides, you need the exercise." Ian was guiding his best friend around the living room. He moved to the other side, by the entry to the hallway. "Walk to me."
Anthony groaned and flipped his dark brown hair to the side of his face. Ian quietly blushed to himself at how attractive his best friend was. Anthony moved slowly towards Ian. He was half way there when he stopped to stretch his burning calf muscle.
"You're lucky we live in a single-floor house." Ian encouraged.
"Alright. Are you ready for this?" Anthony cracked his knuckles and firmly grasped the hand grips. "I'm gonna go to you, in only one step."
"Dude, do you want another sprained ankle?" Ian joked. Anthony was far enough to actually get hurt again. The boys always found ways to make something boring into something really fun and intense. That was one of their best techniques to get ideas for their videos.
"I got this, yo." Anthony said with confidence. He made a quick estimate of his landing and launched forward with his crutches. He swung forward on the crutches like a little kid on a swing flying high when he crashed right into Ian.
Failing to get out of the way, Ian was sent down to the ground like a burning building with Anthony right on top of him and the crutches fell down to the side. They both laughed at his pathetic stunt like they always did in their videos.
"Gah, you are so heavy." Ian choked out. Anthony was literally crushing his stomach.
"Yeah, I guess I do need the exercise." Anthony laughed awkwardly. He glanced at Ian's face. He looked younger when he shaved. Anthony smiled warmly.
"...What?" Ian raised an eyebrow, confused as to why Anthony was staring at him.
"Your bruises are fading away." Anthony commented. Ian had gotten facial bruises from the car accident, too. "Now, I will be able to do this."
"Do what?" Ian inquired.
Anthony's cell phone rang as if on cue. Ian helped him back up to his crutches and grabbed his iPhone off the coffee table and handed it to him.
"Hello? Yo, what's up?" Anthony moved to the couch and plopped down. Ian could hear it was one of the members of the Smosh Team.
Ian went over to the kitchen and grabbed a snack from the cabinet. He aimlessly walked over to the big mirror next to the arcade machines they've kept next to their front door and checked his reflection. His bruises were really clearing up, it looked like he never even had them.
"No way, man! That's awesome!" Anthony exclaimed in happiness. Ian ran over to hear the surprising news. "Thanks, Joe. Yeah, just hit me up when we're gonna start!" Anthony hung up his iPhone, smiling.
"What's happening?" Ian asked. He sat down next to Anthony on the couch and took a bite of a chewy granola bar.
"We're gonna shoot for a commercial about YouTube!" Anthony grinned.
"Whoa, seriously?" Ian dropped a piece of granola bar unto Anthony's lap.
"Yeah, dude!" Anthony grabbed that piece and gobbled it up. "Well, we're one of the YouTubers that will appear in the commercial. We're gonna shoot a segment of what we do as Smosh and the segments will advertise YouTube."
"That's badass!"
"Yup. We get paid, too." Anthony said, chilled.
"Sweet." Ian swallowed the last piece of the chocolate chip granola bar. "Wait. How can we shoot with you barely walking on two feet?"
"Joe said we're going to start in a few weeks." Anthony slightly patted his poor sprained ankle. "I should be healed by then, right?"
"Right." Ian agreed. "By the way."
"Hm?"
"Why were looking at my face?" Ian questioned. "Were you gonna like poke my bruises or something?"
"Oh no." Anthony said. "I was going to do this." He leaned over and kissed the side where Ian's bruises had faded. His skin was smooth and warm. Ian's crystal blue eyes widened and his face turned rosy red instantly. He backed away from his sudden action.
"W-w-what was that for?!" Ian quickly asked, embarrassed.
"I didn't want the taste of your bruises in my mouth." Anthony smirked. "That's gross."
"H-huh?" Ian cringed and stuttered, still embarrassed.
"I'm gonna go edit some videos." Anthony slowly stood up, retrieved his crutches and moved around Ian, and chuckled silently to himself. Ian was left alone in the living room, still red, embarrassed, and really confused.
"H-HUH?!"

Anthony was editing the newest episode of Lunchtime w/ Smosh when his iPhone rang. "Hello?"
"Hey Anthony!" It was an old friend of Smosh, Abigail. She visited the boys for a short while during her summer vacation.
"Oh hey, Abs. What's up?" Anthony resumed his editing.
"Just in Paris now. It's totally amazing here!" By the sound of the background, Abigail must've been shopping in the city, filled with thousands of French people, blinding lights, and animated billboards. "You guys should totally come here and shoot a video. That'd be so epic!"
Anthony laughed. "It would be. But we're already shooting for a commercial."
"You guys are going to be in a commercial?!" Abigail yelled into her phone so loud, it caused Anthony to back away from his iPhone for a moment. He giggled at her reaction. "For what?"
"Advertising YouTube. We're shooting with other YouTubers, too." Anthony took a sip of his iced tea.
"No way! That's awesome! When? Now?" Abigail asked hurriedly.
"Nah, not now." Anthony answered. "In a few weeks. We can't shoot in my condition."
"Condition?" Abigail inquired. "What condition? What happened?" The city noise in the background was getting louder. It sounded like a typical night in any city: gambling machines, movie celebrities appearances, and public performances.
"I got into a car accident." Anthony said.
"What?" yelled Abigail. Anthony figured he should speak louder into his phone.
"I got into a car accident!" Anthony said louder.
"Anthony!" Abigail panicked. "Didn't I tell you guys to look out for each other and make sure the other one doesn't die?" She can sound motherly towards the boys sometimes.
"Well, Ian was about to get hit so I pushed him out of the way." Anthony explained. The loud noise coming from the city atmosphere slowly faded away. He could now hear a woman in the background talking in French. She sounded like an assistant in a women's boutique.
"Oh, my god. Are you guys alright?" Abigail's voice was now softer and clearer.
"Yeah, we're fine." Anthony remarked. "I have a head wound and a sprained ankle, but it's all good."
"Thank goodness you didn't die." Abigail sighed in relief. "When did this happen? And how?"
"It only happened like a week ago." Anthony explained. "And we were in an argument and Ian got upset that he didn't know he was about to get hit by a car."
"He must've been really upset if he didn't realize a car was coming towards him." Abigail commented.
"Yeah..." Anthony still felt bad about hurting Ian.
"Well, it's a good thing you're really looking out for each other then." Abigail said suddenly. "How is he?"
"Huh? Oh, he's fine. Still the same goofy Ian." Anthony said behind a smile.
"Did that little situation between you guys get settled yet?" Abigail inquired.
"What situation?" Anthony questioned.
"You know." He heard her get settled somewhere where there weren't much tourists around. "He told you he liked you, didn't he?"
"He told me when he was drunk." Anthony remembered.
"So is it true? Does he actually like you?" Abigail asked hurriedly again.
"Well, he--" Anthony started. But a sudden thought came to his mind. He wondered if he should actually tell Abigail what happened between him and Ian. He was contemplating whether or not to tell anyone what happened. He felt it was a bad idea. He felt weird about it. "...It's not true."
"Aww," Abigail said. "I was kind of hoping it was true."
"Why?" Anthony questioned, blushing.
"I don't know." Abigail answered.  "I find it kind of cute to see Ian actually liking someone like you."
"We're best friends, Abby." Anthony avowed. "It would be weird."
"Hey, I'm kidding." Abigail giggled. "It's still cute, though."
"Don't you have some shopping to do?" Anthony smiled, trying to change the subject.
"Right! I have to buy all the clothes I can while I'm in Paris!" Abigail said, excited. She said Paris in such a French way. "Talk to you later, Anthony!"
"Yeah, see ya." Anthony smiled and hung up his iPhone. He set it aside and let out a deep sigh. He ran a hand through his dark soft brown hair, letting his thoughts take over him for a moment.
Anthony always believed he was a straight man. He never had any thoughts of other men, he never had fantasies or dreams of men, and he never liked any man as long as he lived. But when it came to Ian, his best friend who just recently confessed to him, he found himself not judging him for it. Was it because he was his best friend and he understood his feelings? Maybe, maybe not. It's not like he was going to judge Ian at all; he just never knew Ian would develop these feelings for him. Anthony doesn't know for sure if Ian was honestly gay, but it would not be a problem to him. So why does Anthony feel weird talking about it to Abigail? Was it because he thought she was going to judge him for that? But that was what Ian was afraid of, too. And was Anthony gay? He kissed his best friend, twice. But one of them was to shut him up. He felt nothing was wrong with it, though. He felt the need to ask Ian about it, but he also felt that would offend him in some way and he was in no mood to hurt his best friend again. All these thoughts were all so confusing that Anthony needed to lie down somewhere.
Anthony got up from his computer chair, sighed when he grabbed his annoying crutches and slowly headed out the computer room. He glanced over to the living room to see Ian sitting at the dinner table with his laptop laughing.
"Whatchu' looking at?" Anthony asked, walking over towards him.
Ian turned and slid the chair next to him for Anthony to sit on. "Oh, nothing. Just watching our videos from like 2006. Just look at us." He laughed and pointed at the screen. The video playing was Battleship.
Anthony sat down with him. "We were really stupid."
"Hey. It got us where we are today." Ian encouraged. He clicked on another video on the sidebar. Both boys were dying of laughter. Watching themselves nearly 5 years ago totally deserved a laugh.
"You definitely did not change one bit, man." Anthony commented.
"You can definitely say I got more attractive." Ian remarked.
"Yeah. You and your bowl haircut." Anthony laughed and messed up Ian's perfectly sculpted light brown hair.
"Gah, get away from me!" Ian laughed and fought his hand away.
"Why are you looking at old videos anyway?" Anthony inquired.
"I don't know." Ian answered frankly. "Wanted to feel a bit nostalgic, you know?"
Anthony raised an eyebrow.
"I mean, the fact that we're going to be in a commercial... I never knew we'd get this far." Ian sat back in his chair and sighed in contentment. "To be honest, I never thought we were going to be Smosh for this long."
"Really?" Anthony forced his sprained ankle to get comfortable.
"Yeah. Like, we sort of dropped out of college to do Smosh. My parents weren't so happy about that." Ian said. The way he said that made Anthony realize the true reality of life. He was so caught up with Smosh for the past few years, he has forgotten the life he lived before Smosh was created. Before that, Ian and Anthony were just two awkward teenagers who needed to spice up their boring lives. Anthony was about to say something, but Ian continued. "Especially my dad. He wanted me to become a lawyer. But I suck at debating and I don't have the hardcore intellectual mind lawyers have."
"I don't see you as a lawyer at all." Anthony commented. He didn't mean to sound offending.
"Exactly." Ian agreed. "I'm too dumb to be a lawyer."
"It's not that." Anthony said. "It's your character. You're too..."
Ian waited for the wrong words to come out of Anthony's mouth. Anthony always seemed to screw up when he was in serious conversations.
"...You're too unique to be a lawyer." Anthony finally said. "You're better being dorky and jolly."
Ian made a silly grin at his best friend, causing him to laugh.
"Thanks man." Ian said. "Even though I'm not a lawyer, my parents are definitely proud of where I am today."
"Really?" Anthony asked.
"Yep. If it weren't for you convincing me to do Smosh, I'd be a sad bastard living in an igloo in Canada." Ian stated. "As long as I'm happy with my partner in crime here." He gave his best friend a playful punch.
"That means a lot to me, man." Anthony smiled warmly. "Really."
Anthony's deep and meaningful smile gave Ian a stomach load of butterflies. He turned his face back to the laptop screen, flustered and embarrassed at his corny statement. Yet, he felt elated and couldn't wipe that big smile from his own face.
