my great forever 21 adventure
preface: so we all know that forever 21 is a "fine establishment." their cheap clothing and fashionably skanky clothing just makes me swoon. but their return policy doesn't. one time i went to wet seal (sort of the same sort of store) to buy jewelry for a dance costume. i knew i'd never wear the jewelry again so i kept the tags (detached) and the receipt. after my performance i went back to wet seal and got a refund. so...here's my forever 21 story.
forever 21 story: i went to 21 yesterday to get a dress and some bling bling for halloween. all the while thinking i'll just return what i don't want. you may think that's wiggidy whack but i think it's smart. anyway, i also saw a fun bag with a long strap to wear across my body that also had loops to carry it on my arm. there is as similar $425 cole haan bag that i love but i was like score! this one's $19.80 so i bought that too.
as the cashier is ringing me up she says that all sales are FINAL on jewelry. so i rolled my eyes and just said whatever and bought the 2 necklaces and bracelets. i bought everything else and was really excited. then i turned over the receipt and it says that you may exchange or get store credit ONLY if you want to return something BUT you have the have the tag ATTACHED and the original receipt. the plot thickens...
this morning i was so excited to use the new bag i got (for some reason i say bag instead of purse) that i tore off the tag and laughed out loud saying take that forever 21!. i drove to bart all excited to utilize my new accessory. i step out of my car, sling the bag across my body, and SNAP the strap breaks! damn! I TOOK THE TAG OFF! but i had the original receipt in my wallet.
so i made a desperate attempt and went to forever 21 on my lunch break today. i pleaded with the manager to let me exchange it for the EXACT same bag. "i just bought it yesterday" i said, "i really like the bag" i confessed. so she went and found me a new one, we made the even exchange ("just this once" she said), and i was ready to leave. BUT WAIT this bag was broken too..."i like the bag," i said "but i'd like one that's not broken" so she went to get another one...it was broken too!!!
so i'm like "can i get store credit?" says to self: i'm sure i'll want to look like a skank in the near future and could use store credit. but no...I HAD TO MAKE AN EXCHANGE AT THAT EXACT MOMENT OR ELSE....so i ended up getting a hideous yellow cable-knit v-neck 3/4 length sleeve sweater. whatever, it was also $19.80 and i have "hideous" taste so it all works out.
but gee. get it together forever 21. you know why nordstrom is such a fine establishment? apart from their wonderful customer service...YOU CAN RETURN ANYTHING!!! AT ANY TIME!! WITH OR WITHOUT A TAG!!
