here's a short article from the Marin Independent Journal on Sept 28, 2007:
Next step: Ban plastic bottles
Joe Garbarino and Carol Misseldine's facts on the plastic bag dilemma (Reader's Forum, Sept. 18) reminded me of another problem: the ever-popular bottled water.
Having recently participated in California Coastal Cleanup Day (along with thousands of others), I wasn't surprised at the amount of garbage my team gathered. I was shocked, however that a large percentage of the debris was empty plastic water bottles and hundreds of plastic lids. To think that our collection was just a minute fraction of what's out there littering our waterways, marshes, etc. The pieces we missed this year may still be there next year in similar form.
Please think twice before purchasing plastic bottled water. It may be convenient, but we all managed to drink tap water in reusable containers before plastic bottled water hit the market. Plus, it's cheaper.
