From the time the girls started riding their riding toys in the cul de sac (so, I think it's been about a year. If memory serves, the summer they were 1, once they were mobile, we pretty much stayed inside unless daddy was home to help, the summer they were 2, we had the "stay on the white part" rule (which kept them on our (concrete) driveway & off the (blacktop) cul de sac), so I'm thinking last summer was when they really started exploring the whole cul de sac, though it may have been the 2nd part of the summer they were 2, I don't remember). Anyway . . . there's a tree pretty much directly across the cul de sac from us that has somehow always been they're favorite place to play. I think because it's far enough away from me (in our yard or on our porch) that they feel like they're "on their own" but I don't really know. So, today they were riding their bikes & Ashlyn came over & wanted to know how she could carry a water bottle AND ride her bike at the same time. She then explained that they were going on a picnic & "you can't have a picnic without water!" so I suggested she go get a backpack to put the water in, and also gave her a bag of pretzels to add to their picnic & suggested a playsilk when she asked about a picnic blanket "because we'll be sitting on the ground so we HAVE to have a picnic blanket". And off they went to have a picnic under their favorite tree. It was SO cute :)
Other biking news, last night or the night before, they were riding their bikes right before dark & for whatever reasons a bunch of the older kids that live in or near our cul de sac were out riding bikes, scooters, etc. as well. Lexie decided that it was too dangerous w/ all those kids going every which way so somehow managed to convince them all to "get in a straight line & follow me" I think the YOUNGEST kid out there other than my girls was 8 or 9, it was quite amusing to see all these big kids following around the circle behind her :) She was rather disappointed when they all had to go home LOL.
