Annual year-end survey a little late

Jan 17, 2013 00:16

I thought about this long before the new year, but I wanted to wait, and then I waited and waited, and here we are, but I couldn't break 10 years of tradition...could I?

1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
I quit a job that was killing me in search of something better.
I had a brand-new car all to myself.  My first Jeep was new in 2000, but I had to share it with my mother.
I flew to Las Vegas, drove through Arizona to Utah, went to Zion National Park -- all of that was new, plus I had my first-ever real vacation.
I went to Holland.
I visited a country for the second time (Israel).
Kissed a certain person.
Cried more times than I could count.
Met someone I hope is in my life forever.
I went to Rochester, NY.
I was a bridesmaid in a gay wedding.

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make New Year's resolutions. No one keeps them anyway. (This is the same answer every year, I think.)

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes.

5. What countries did you visit?
Holland and Israel.

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
I'm still going for that "I really need a new car thing."  <-- this was my answer last year and I did it!
Stability and a sense that someone will overcome rumors and come back to me.

7. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon you memory, and why?

January 14 - 15
June 29
July 2
October 12 - 15
December 25 and 26

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Bravery and getting a new car (separate things; I did not need to be brave to get a new car.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Moving back to Boston was not what it was supposed to be.  I was incessantly bullied by a group of 22-year-olds, causing me to fall back into my old anorexic ways, among other things, and while people said it was a horrible thing they did to me, no one really cared.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really, for once.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My new car, obviously; some new clothes to make me a better person -- buying dresses and prints and things like that to make me girly for once were good things.  Buying plane tickets was good too.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
The people who stood by me in some of the toughest times of my adult life.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Obviously, the 22-year-olds who bullied me really took a toll on me, and the person associated with them never stood up for me or really listened to my point of view or me, sadly.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, student loans, clothes, trying to live my life for once.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I went on some big trips for once.  There's a new person in my life that I WAS very excited about, but someone seems to have ruined that in an effort to exact revenge.  I will hopefully prevail.

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
The first one that comes to mind is Mumford & Sons - I Will Wait

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
I. Happier or sadder? It's a mix, for different reasons.
II. Thinner or fatter? Thinner by about 20 pounds!

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Convincing myself that life is worth living/continuing.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Crying, trying to prove that I am worth something, trying to defeat bullying, which is something no one should have to endure at age 29.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I was in NYC.  I volunteered in the Rockaways and delivered 700 meals in my car. I went to Chinatown with 9 other people, and I met someone who may change my life.

21. Did you fall in love in 2012?
Of course not, and my chances for 2013 are now slim-to-none because someone decided to sabotage me.  :(

22. How many one-night stands?
Zero hero!

23. What was your favorite TV program?
How I Met Your Mother, Good Wife, Modern Family, the news, 60 Minutes.  Once again, I'm keeping last year's answer.  Hmm...

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't hate anyone.  I would say that disappointment is the better term to use.

25. What was the best book you read?
I honestly did not really have time to read this year, and I can't really remember anything I read other than some Stephen King, very old Dean Koontz, and Brad Meltzer.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I rediscovered a lot of old, homemade CDs when loading up the built-in hard drive in my car.

27. What did you want and get?
Nothing, really.  I didn't even want a new car, but rather I needed one.  I wanted respect, and I got repaid with less than that.

28. What did you want and not get?
A chance at something new and different, to change my belief that I no longer believe in love, being a good person, treating others well and/or the way you want to be treated or anything like that.

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
I honestly did not go to the movies once in 2012.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 29 on Wednesday, September 19.  To say it was probably the worst birthday of my life would be an understatement.  Never argue with someone on her birthday.  Never make her feel horrible.  Never try to force her to change the restaurant 2 hours before dinner.  Don't make her cry.  Don't argue over the food or money with anyone or at least in front of the birthday girl/during dinner.  People deserve respect and just one special day, especially when they have nothing else in their lives.  I didn't even really get any presents, other than laundry detergent.  No one let me do what I wanted on MY birthday.  Awful, awful birthday. It'll probably all go downhill from here, too.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Easy - if my life hadn't completely fallen apart then I wouldn't be falling apart right now.  Also, if someone took responsibility for his own actions rather than blaming others, then my heart wouldn't be absolutely broken right now because the beginning of something seems to have ended due to someone's inconsiderate nature.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Classic, timely, in fashion but here to say.

33. What kept you sane?
I'm another year older, so death is another year closer.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I pay no attention to celebrities.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
I wrote I was sick of the election last year, so definitely that.  Thank G-d (if there even is one at this point) that we do not have a Republican idiot puppet present.

36. Who did you miss?
I miss someone very much right now, but I can't say who and it's not who you think.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
The person I met.  I know this person could change my life in so many ways, but it appears to be that someone else didn't want that for his own selfish reasons.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.
Don't trust anyone, don't believe in love, don't believe that people have goodness inside of them, there is no life in darkness.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Anything involving a broken heart will do.

year-end
