Chapter 8
For two whole days, Kazuya stayed home. He barely ate. He refused to take calls and had shut off his phone. He stayed in his room and just cried. The emptiness he felt was unbearable. He'd force himself to sleep to go back to his dream when he has his daughter and Jin beside him. But it did not happen.
On the second night, he hoped to die. He was in the middle of contemplating ending his own life when the doorbell rang. He ignored it and stoically walked towards his kitchen. The doorbell rang again. Kazuya rummaged through a drawer. The doorbell rang coupled with a frantic knocking and a voice calling his name. Kazuya pulled out a knife from the drawer.
“KAZUYA! OPEN THE DOOR NOW!”
As always, the angry voice of his mother immediately knocked him back to his senses. He slowly placed the knife back inside the drawer then went to open the door. As soon as he saw his mother, Kazuya broke down in her arms.
The woman hugged his son and led him to the couch. “Now, now, honey. Don't cry. It's gonna be okay.” Kazuya shook his head. His cries had turned into heart-wrenching wailing. He could not even tell him mother that he was grieving over the loss of a non-existent baby.
“Shhh, Kazu-kun. Everything's gonna be okay...” Kazuya's mother murmured as she held the boy's head on her chest and rubbed his back.
“I want to die, oka-san,” Kazuya whimpered.
“No, stop that. It just feels like that but you don't really want to die,” the woman said. Tears started to trickle down her face, too. Emphatic at his son's misery. “I know you have it difficult right now being an idol and all. I understand.”
“No, you don't...”
“Yes, I do,” his mother insisted. “I'm your mother.”
“You don't!” Kazuya protested, his voice breaking. “You don't understand. You don't know. It was all I dream and I want it back...”
Mrs. Kamenashi kissed her son atop his head. “I've gone through this myself,” she daid.
Kazuya lifted his head and, through eyes blurred with tears, looked at his mother quizzically. “Gone through what? Lost a dream you want so bad?”
The woman just smiled. “It felt like that at first but then I realized I wouldn't exchange you or any of your brothers for any stupid dream. And it'll pass.”
Kazuya sniffed. His mother's tale intrigued him and he momentarily had to stop crying. “What will pass? What are you talking about?”
Mrs. Kamenashi softly chuckled. “It's hormonal, honey. It's called post partum depression.”
Kazuya stilled. “Post part...?” But Kazuya was interrupted by a sudden loud noise coming in from the door.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KAZUYA!”
His band mates had entered his apartment with balloons, bottles of wine and a birthday cake.
“Sorry, we forgot. But it's never too late to celebrate, 'ne?” Koki said with a sheepish grin. Junno, Maru and Ueda stood beside Koki, all looking apologetic.
Kazuya stared at them then looked back at his mother. “Post part...what?”
“Post partum depression. I was stupid to have missed that.” It was Jin's voice. “Happy birthday, Kazuya.”
Kazuya turned back to look at his band mates. And he cried and he smiled when he saw Jin appear from behind his band mates carrying a baby - his baby.
♡♡♡♡♡
Everyone had gone home. The baby's fast asleep in the crib. Kazuya wanted his baby to sleep beside him on the bed but Jin insisted it would be dangerous. He fears he'd crush the infant when they are asleep. Kazuya did not argue. He was just too darn happy. And anyway, when Jin falls asleep, he'd just take the baby and let it sleep on his chest. The way he always did before that post-partum depression made him a miserable wench.
“Kazu...” Jin softly called out. They were both seated on the bed, legs tucked under and watching their baby sleep. “I'm sorry...”
Kazuya looked at Jin and smiled. “Will you stop saying you're sorry...”
Jin smiled back. “I didn't mean to scare you...I just wanted to give you what you said you wanted.” Extremely guilty that he had forgotten Kazuya's birthday, Jin organized the rest of KAT-TUN - who were also extremely guilty - to clean out Kazuya's apartment of the entire baby stuff.
Jin took the baby with him in his apartment thinking that by leaving Kazuya alone for a whole day, the younger man would finally get the much-needed rest he wanted. The following day, he left the baby with Kazuya's mother while he and his band mates prepared for the surprise belated birthday party. When he took the baby back, Jin had to explain to Kazuya's mother what her son was going through. She hit him on the head and called him 'baka' when she found out Kazuya's been left alone for two days while going through post-partum depression. Hence, she went straight to Kazuya's apartment.
“I really am sorry,” Jin repeated and scuttled towards Kazuya.
Kazuya leaned on Jin. He could never really get mad at Jin. It was his fault anyway. He always griped about his life. But now he knows that as long as he has his baby...and Jin, he will always love his life.
Jin kissed Kazuya's hair. Kazuya leaned his head on Jin's shoulder. Jin wrapped his arm around Kazuya's waist. Kazuya smiled. Then Jin's hand crawled under Kazuya's shirt and started stroking the younger man's belly. Kazuya stiffened.
“No!” he said and quickly pulled away.
Jin pouted. “C'mon, Kazuya...It's been almost a year. Have mercy on me!”
“Jin, it's not that...it's just...” Kazuya stuttered, unable to verbalize what he discovered with his body the day before.
“I'll use rubber. I bought one box,” Jin said and from under the bed pulled a box of condoms.
Kazuya stared at the box in horror. “Jin, I....I...it's...”
Kazuya closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes, Jin was watching him, looking expectant. “I have my penis back,” Kazuya blurted quickly.
“What?” Jin looked unbelieving.
Kazuya relayed what he discovered when he took a leak the morning after his birthday. “I don't know how it happened...it's just back.”
Jin's gaze lowered down to Kazuya's crotch. At which, the latter self-consciously placed a pillow on his lap. Jin's gaze darted back to Kazuya's face. Slowly, a smile spread on Jin's lips. “Even better,” he said, eyes twinkling with mischief.
Kazuya frowned. “Jin, I'm no longer a girl,” he further explained, unable to comprehend why Jin seemed to be glad at the news.
Jin scoffed. “Enough with this girl thing, Kazuya. You are never a girl!”
“I know! That's why you broke up with me, remember?” Kazuya said, accusing and still hurt.
“What the hell are you talking about? I did not break up with you. You broke up with me. You said you needed space,” Jin said, his voice hushed, recalling a certain painful past.
“Because I heard you talking to Pi! I heard everything,” Kazuya protested. That was two years ago. He can still remember that night they had dinner at their friend's apartment. At one point, Kazuya went to relieve himself in the toilet and on his way back, he heard Jin and Yamapi talking. He clearly remembered Jin's words and how his world crumbled hearing them. And he took it upon himself to give Jin the easy way out.
The night they broke up also remains vivid to Jin. The two of them were having fun in the company of Yamapi but when Kazuya came back from the toilet, his boyfriend was suddenly sullen and quiet. When he took Kazuya home, instead of a kiss, Kazuya broke up with him. He tried for weeks to make Kazuya explain but that was all he repeatedly got. Until Jin gave up and merely hoped Kazuya would one day change his heart.
“What exactly did you hear?” Jin asked, unable to recall anything he said to Yamapi that would want Kazuya to break up with him.
“You said you were interested in girls,” Kazuya mumbled and took a deep breath to ease the pain he feels whenever he recalls that night.
“What?” Jin asked, incredulous. He was talking to Yamapi that night about girls but he distinctly remembers he never said that. “Baka!” Jin exclaimed. “That's not what I said to Pi. I said I find girls interesting.”
“Yeah, that's what I said. You said you're interested in girls,” Kazuya insisted.
“Baka! That's different,” Jin exclaimed once again, upset that he had to endure two years without Kazuya because of a stupid misunderstanding. “I said I find girls interesting. You know, as in I'm curious about them because they are different from us guys.”
Kazuya frowned, unable to comprehend. “What do you mean?”
“You know, they have different body parts. I was curious how they function,” Jin went on to explain. “Why do you think I know about menstruation and tampons and stuff?”
“Are you serious?” Kazuya asked, unbelieving.
“After we broke up, I went out with girls because I wanted to forget you,” Jin said. “Also I wanted to know more about them.”
Kazuya felt as if a heavy weight had been lifted off his shoulders. “You went out with girls to find out about their reproductive functions?” he asked, amused at Jin. “You're so baka! They just have different bodily functions. But they're just like us.”
“But many of them become mothers. And mothers have super powers,” Jin argued.
Kazuya chuckled. He had to agree on that. “Still, Jin, girls are just like us. They love and hurt just like we do.”
“Yeah, I figured that out.” Jin recalled how Kazuya's “I need space” reason to break up was so lame but it hurt him so bad. And before that, he had broken many hearts with the same line.
“So you're okay I'm not a girl?” Kazuya asked, just to be clear.
Jin sighed, exasperated. “Kazuya, you're a difficult princess who wants everything in your life perfect. You're an obnoxious diva who insists you are always right. And you can be such a real bitch when things don't go your way. But no, you were never and will never be a girl.”
“And you want me even if I'm not a girl?” Kazuya asked, still needing affirmation.
Jin grabbed Kazuya towards him. “I'd want you even if you're a chicken,” Jin said. Kazuya laughed.
Jin pushed Kazuya down on the bed. Then he grinned mischievously looking down at Kazuya's crotch. “Now let us see if that still works...”
THE END
[A/N: This epilogue is totally unnecessary but I wanted to write it anyway. I warn those who are sensitive about Kazuya not to read because it implied on something very controversial about Kazuya. This is just for fun. I love Kazuya and everything about him.]
