Ok, if you know me you know I have no love for the current government of Canada. I in fact have a problem with the system in general, but that is another topic for another day

I must admit I was unimpressed too when I saw a headline about the cheque thing. I was (a bit) less upset when I read further and found out it was 1 MP on 1 (so far) occasion and that the PMO immediately sent out a memo telling all MPs and staff that they cannot do that - even with novelty cheques (I was wondering at first if they were talking about real cheques as opposed to those toy ones they use in announcements). From what the Globe said, they allowed to make some modifications to the toy cheques (although not putting party logo on or taking the maple leaf off) if it's a political event as opposed to an official announcement which has to be done by the government

"And a look at individual Conservative MP websites reveals dozens of cheque presentations on which the MP's name and signature appears in bold letters, while the Government of Canada logo is almost invisible."
Complaints about referring to the Government of Canada as the 'Harper Government' surfaced earlier when talking about the stimulus package website, which came under fire as looking like it was run by the Conservative party (prominence of the colour blue, many pictures of Stephen Harper). The website made several references to the "Harper Government" and not the "Government of Canada" as well. The website was later changed. This was part and parcel of complaints that $40 million in government money was being spent on the website and advertising campaign for stimulus dollars and it looked like an ad for the Tories, while only $6.5 million was being spent on advertising the H1N1 vaccine, more here.
Yeah. We need better politicians. I look at the current crop of so-called leaders we're stuck with, and I don't see one of them that's worth my vote.
And the parties? The Liberals don't currently stand for anything but their entitlement to power and would slip back into their old culture of corruption. You're bang on with the Conservatives. There are days when I wish that I could let myself become a one-issue voter, but dammit, even if they're they only party with a barely, marginally acceptable stance on my pet issue, I can't bring myself to vote for them. The NDP? I sympathize with them but they're just plain incapable of forming a government and ye ghodz Layton. The Greens are such a total disappointment on so many levels it breaks my heart to list them. And don't get me started on the Bloc.
I fear that we're following the Americans down a slippery slope into substanceless, adversarial politics driven entirely by image and spin and widespread voter apathy.
