It's in the Yellow Pages!

Scored this old Covina phone book recently. It's from 1983: the year I moved away from my home town and birthplace.

It's in really good shape for a 40-year-old book that most people didn't treat with any care.

You can tell by its size that it wasn't just for Covina. The listings covered most of the Eastern San Gabriel Valley, as well.

When the saying "thick as a phone book" actually meant something!

First thing I looked up was my parents' number. I had my own phone at home, of course, but I would have had it disconnected in March when I moved away, so I wasn't surprised to see it wasn't in here.

"Edw M & Lillian L"

I was surprised, however, to see my dad's casket company had a listing in the Yellow Pages!

"Let your fingers to the walking"... for a casket, lol!

Actually, some people apparently did look up "Caskets." Every once in a while, someone would come to the office to ask if they could buy one for a deceased loved one. It was awkward having to explain to them that we only made the rough shells. They'd have to go to a funeral home to buy a finished casket. That's changed nowadays, of course. Lots of places will sell direct to the public, but that just wasn't done back in the day.

Anyway, I've enjoyed looking through this old phone book. Who knew something so mundane that we disposed of without a thought would possess so much entertainment value decades later!

Now I'd really like to find a Covina phone book from the Sixties. I think that would be even more fun to peruse. ^_^
