You know, normally I'd be happy to hear from someone I haven't seen in over 20 years, but a prodigal friend like that should understand that they need to come in for a 'soft landing' after such a long period of estrangement, especially since the circumstances of our parting way back when were- to put it kindly- less than satisfactory. I don't know what happened, but I've known a few folks with (as you said) little tact, and I'm sorry to hear of the disappointment.... but at least it's good for you know that it's likely they haven't and won't be changing, so you won't get tangled up in it... :|
