New Eyes!

Jan 20, 2021 12:03

After two weeks away, I am now back home after undergoing two eye procedures in the LA area, and I'm pleased to report that, for the first time in 10 years, I have regained the full use of both eyes. 🙂

I had laser-assisted cataract surgery in my almost-blind right eye, and I also underwent an experimental application of an ophthalmological treatment called 'laser iridotomy' which the doctor hoped might improve the iridodonesis which crippled my left eye after cataract surgery in 2011. Laser iridotomy has long been employed to treat narrow-angle glaucoma, but this was apparently the first time its use was attempted to address my particular condition (which every previous doctor- including a specialist at the Jules Stein Institute at UCLA- had told me was INCURABLE), and it was successful! Within hours after the procedure, the wobbly vision in my left eye stabilized. I could hardly believe it! The surgeon was so pleased with the results that she told me she is going to publish my breakthrough case in a medical journal, which hopefully may benefit others with this rare condition.

While all credit for my medical miracles goes to Dr. Nicole Fram, none of this could have even been possible without the help of my friend of 61 years, Richard Rudolph, and his wife Yona, who subsidized my trip and welcomed me into their home for two whole weeks. (And fed me like a king, to boot!) The Rudolphs are thus no less responsible for my return to normal sight than my doctor is, and for that, I am eternally grateful to both of them. 🙂
