Sooo... ever thought about spats?

There I am, innocently writing on my exam papers, when suddenly Sart decided to post this picture Vintage Sunday, Paris.
I think both women look beautifully eccentric, which you know I adore. But what really made me tear myself away from work, were the shoe accessories on the lady to the right - the spats.
I've seen things like those before, but only in a military or historical context so they've never really registered. Seeing this picture made me realize that I'm long overdue buying my own pair. I think the shoes shown here are to bulky and ruin the clean line you can get, so it's definitely an accessory you need to make sure you're wearing right.

For that perfect mix of old and new, military and fashion, for that taste of Victorian and steam punk, I give you:

Cyanaboutique.com has some rather expensive spats that are not entirely to my taste, but still shouldn't go unmentioned.
Etsy.com with beautiful handmade versions. And some more. I especially like these.
Fabric Horse has a couple more serious spats
Plasticland has some spat inspired legwarmers.
So does Sock Dreams.
For the more kinky look there's always Vex Clothing.
I've fallen in love with a pair of straps with Alphonse Mucha print (I'm a huge fan) at en.dawanda.com (scroll down a bit).

BTW:  Take a look at these insane pirate boots I found. They're almost enough to get me to shop for shoes over the internet again (never really worked for me, I always get the wrong size).

misc: links, shopping: accessories, recs, shopping: i really really want this, shopping: shoes, shopping: clothes
