LIVERMORE FALLS - When students and their adviser at Livermore Falls High School heard that a longtime SAD 36 custodian's house was damaged by fire, they decided to help.

Senior class members and their adviser, Diane Maurais, are organizing a benefit supper Saturday for the fire victims, Skip Pritsky and his mother, Marge Pritsky.

Class members had planned to sell food during the Jay-Livermore Rotary Auction, which begins at 6 p.m. Saturday at the school cafeteria to support the senior class trip to Florida, but changed their plans after learning about the fire. The auction will still be held, after the dinner.

Skip is a longtime custodian in SAD 36, and his mother worked as a secretary in the superintendent's office before retiring. She also served on the district's school board.

"From the moment we heard that Skip's house was burning," Livermore Falls High School senior class president Jenna Collins said, "we wanted to do something to help him out because he has always helped us out. He takes care of us, so it's our chance to take care of him."

"They were kind of upset about his house burning," senior Krista Allen said, "but now they're happy to help him out."

Senior class members plan to be on hand throughout the spaghetti supper, which is scheduled from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Maurais said it was her idea to hold the supper, and the kids thought it was a great idea.

It's her first time at organizing a benefit dinner for so many people.

The SAD 36 community has pulled together, Maurais said.

Community members, churches, students, teachers and veterans organizations are taking part by donating money or supplies, baking, volunteering or cooking, she said.

There will also be a 50/50 raffle and a bake sale.

The senior class donated $100 for food and the American Legion, AMVETS and VFW veterans organizations will pick up the remainder of the food cost, Maurais said. Skip Pritsky is a Vietnam veteran.

SAD 36 is donating the paper goods and Penny Jackman, a senior class member's mother, is cooking the spaghetti.

"Skip is just a legend in this school," Allen said.

Collins said she remembers when he saved the library books during a fire at the elementary school in Livermore.

"He's a hard-working man to keep this school clean," Allen said.

Maurais agreed.

"He's dependable and he never fusses," Maurais said. "Whatever our kids need, he just does it."

I wish i could go.... But i have to work.... Our class should donate money.. If we even have any hehe :)
