Tonight we had dinner at Grandma and Grandpa's for Beej's birthday. For hours, I sat and listned to Grandpa and his brother, Uncle Tom, talk about growing up, the army, and everything in between. It was amazing to listen to their insight, the things they've seen. It also got me thinking about growing up. Someday, there will be a time when Mom and Dad aren't around. It will be me, Beej, and Geoff sitting around telling our children, grandchildren about our lives. How different things were. How rough we had it. Part of that thought made me incredibly sad, but another part of me thought it was precious knowing that us kids will always stick together, no matter what.
Uncle Tom is an amazing man and I regret the fact that I have never even begun to know him until tonight. After hearing things about me, that I love to write and read, that I am terrible with numbers, etc. etc. he told me he was going to claim me. That he is to thank for his grandniece. It's nice developing that history, though, knowing that someone in my family shares the same passions that I do. That, I like to have on my side.
Beej, Ginger, Mom and I all got our pictures taken today. We got some me and mom, some me mom and ginger, and some beej and ginger. It was Beej's birthday present from all of us. We all just wore polos with some shade of blue in them. It's weird thinking of her as part of the family, but there is not question that she is. And there will probably be a ring to prove it over the next few months. It's like all of a sudden, we're growing up. We've found people, Beej's has found a career (Ginger, too), Brian has bought a house, Geoff is on salary now. I'm the only "kid" left, and over the last year I think I have lost most of the kid and taken on adult. To quote Blink 182, "Well, I guess this is growing up."
About Geoff... He got promoted to Store Manager for Texas Roadhouse in Greenwood! He is on salaray with benefits! YEAH! Anytime you're in the Indy area, you should stop by the best run Texas Roadhouse around!
Though I feel like I could write for hours, this will do for now! Oh yea... HAPPY 20th BIRTHDAY TO BRIAN TOMORROW!
