Oh yes indeed. John would have certainly called on tv and movie theatre as a baby sitter. I haven't put the dates on the TV shows, but I'd be curious to know how many were from the 80s also - when Dean was growing up.
Yeah, I got a bee in my bonnet and just had to have a list. It was actually quite fun putting it together. I'm surprised how many of these movies I've watched... xx
I want to add that there are two other movie references Dean did not get: In Monster Movie Dean doesn't get it when Sam references Mina and Harker from the Dracula movies/books. That's the one that bothers me the most. I mean, c'mon Dean is a horror fan! And in Let It Bleed Dean doesn't know who H.P. Lovecraft is, which bothers me because even though Sam and Bobby are talking about the books, many of Lovecraft's stories have been made into movies, so Dean really should know him.
And thanks for the heads up on those other two instances. I think they often use those moments for comedy and to make Dean look uneducated. It's a shame because he really does know his movies. Books maybe not so much though. From the list Dean seems to be more into 80s horror than the much earlier stuff. There's no references to classic horror films (Bride of Frankenstein is the only one he mentions) so I actually think he's not into old films (I actually think B&W films are his no-go area!).
