Where doth the true incompetency lie?

Tokyopop or Borders? Or perhaps the shipping company that delivers fresh new hot manga to bookstores everywhere?

I don't actually know. But I do know that Tokyopop's website says that Fruits Basket vol. 17 and Mugen Spiral vol. 2 were due to be released SUNDAY AUGUST FIFTH. Boys and girls, what day is it TODAY?

I am so SICK of the CRAP. I want my manga and I want it NOW GODDAMMIT. I am more inclined to blame Tokyopop, because Borders has never failed me before and because they released Fullmetal Alchemist vol. 14 early (it wasn't supposed to be out until the 23rd according to Viz.) AND ALSO BECAUSE TOKYOPOP IS A LYING SACK OF SHIT THAT CAN'T SEEM TO DO ANYTHING RIGHT ANYMORE. When did Fruits Basket 16 come out? APRIL. When does 17 come out? AUGUST. Seriously, WHAT THE FUCK?

I am *this close* to sending them an angry email. It would go something like this:

"Dear Tokyopop,

FUCK YOU AND YOUR BAD DECISIONS.

That is all.

Sincerely,

An irritated manga reader."

That's the only thing it could be: bad decisions. Incompetency. Do we see this incompetency in other companies? I think not. Viz is extremely consistent when it comes to releasing manga: once a month, once every two months if it gets too close to the Japanese releases, etc. I remember the good old days when I was collecting Rurouni Kenshin: at the start of every month I'd head to Borders and pick up the next issue...the only reason it took me two years was because there are 28 volumes of Rurouni Kenshin. Fruits Basket is only supposed to go up to 21 volumes...I think. 136 chapters, whatever. And how long have I been buying the volumes? Since 2004. And there are only 16 volumes out so far.

It's fucking outrageous, if you ask me. But I tend to be impatient. Plus, when you read something like Fruits Basket, which tends to end on cliffhangers EVERY TIME (or so it seems to me), you want the next book ASAP. And I do mean, ASAP. But does Tokyopop have them ready for me? NO. They are too busy trying to be another fucking myspace except they can't handle that on top of all the shit they aren't getting done already. And they have the nerve to tell scanlation sites to take down their FB scans. Well, what are we supposed to do? Wait FOUR FUCKING MONTHS and buy it?

I don't really have a leg to stand on with that one, I know. For the record though, I have read scanlations for nearly the entire series, and I continue to buy the manga despite Tokyopop's ridiculously slow production rate. It hasn't stopped me from loving the series, but it has royally pissed me off and made me reconsider what companies I buy my manga from.

Thank god for Viz. Please, lord, please, do NOT let Tokyopop get their grubby hands on Haruhi. If they do, I will do something really really drastic. Like protest. Or send a slew of angry handwritten letters. Yeah. That'll show them.

Anger is good fuel for filling up blogspace.
