Okay, I think I have it now. This is the first chapter, and follows the prologue of De Anima, a novelization of the rpg for the SNES, Mystic Ark. Have fun. (Yes, I know I just posted the prologue after this chapter. So I'm inconsistent. It's not the worst of all crimes.)

It's always the hot-headed rookies that get the ball rolling. )
As for the cat versus homo sapien thing, they recognize her as human, like they are, but not a cat person. I always thought of it as some sort of ethnicity in this world because of different sensibilities and possibilities, where traveling from dimension to dimension is rare, but not unheard of. One of the other worlds you visit is inhabited entirely by children, and other than commenting, "Gee, you're awful big," nothing else is made of your height and maturity. So I took it as a common trait that travelers and foreigners were accepted.
As for punishment, Bragg is beaten and stuffed in the brig for a couple of months, until...well, plot detail. I admit to not knowing much about the army, other than my father being a part of the military, but I did research pirates online before writing this portion of the story
Also there's a comment about prisoners of the Bloodhook being treated fairly within the game, so I didn't think it'd be out of character to be left to rot in the brig.
