May 07, 2012 19:45

Having borrowed Raine's truck earlier in the day, Ashe had gone to pick up Grace from school then he went to work on his biggest project in a log time. Cleaning up the garage so he could figure out what he could salvage and what he just needed to replace. The truck was so he could hull out the broken down half demolished convertible body that had ( Read more... )

It was actually about thirty minutes before she walked back into the garage, having been held up in the corner market by the owner chatting with a friend.

She had the bag of snacks and drinks in hand and still had a dirt smudge on her cheek from where she had been working cleaning out the cabinets to take stock of what he had there.

"Aw I thought that you would let me take down the peg boards." She gave a mock pout. "Gary was out of the ham he usually uses in the hoagies, got us turkey instead. And Dews." She set the bag on a clean counter pulling out a small bag of cheetos she had been nibbling at on the walk back to the shop.

"I want to get the speakers out before I accidently leave them behind. I love my speakers." He teased some as he sat the drill down holding the board up with one hand, looking back at her as she sat the stuff down.

"Not here Grace, go pull the door to the back, it's far too dusty in here to try to eat." He had showed her the trick door to the room behind the garage awhile ago.

He waited until she had moved a little to pull the large peg board off the wall and throw it down on the ground, sitting inside of the wall were the only two large speakers that were part of the sound system of the garage Ashe had been so proud of.

She nodded grabbing the bags heading to the other room to finish up her bag of chips.

"Oh, apparently you're not the only one moving out of here either Dad. He was saying that there's at least two other places that are leaving. Partly because they went under." She peeked her head out of the room when the dust cleared. "He wants you to stop by on the way out to say good bye."

"I know Jose is closing up his, though that's because Maria is scared he will end up shot and get Jac killed in the process, over that brother of his." He spoke as he jumped down off of the work bench pushing the glasses up into his dusty hair following her through the door he walked to teh sink washing his hands a bit. "I never noticed how horribly dusty this place is until today." He spoke as he cracked open one of the Mountain Dews leaning against the counter. "Of course I will tell him so. You told him were leaving?" he asked curious since it did take her a long while to get back.

"He asked since he hadn't seen you around as much. I think he figured you were because of me. He also hasn't seen Raine which was worrying him. I told him she was recovering from an incident. Didn't tell him what happened though." She popped another chip into her mouth. "He told me to give her a get well message."

"He kept asking about Danny until I finally told him what we have to tell people, I'm sure he knew it was coming sooner or later. He's known for ages before I met any of you that I wanted to leave. I wanted to take Danny and go back home, but it just never happened." He admitted as he moved to sit beside her. "He's a good person, but I'm sure we will meet new people when we move. Only down side. We'll have to take care of the lawn." He an Raine's joke about how they liked the slums cause no one cared how crappy your place looked. "Were gonna do good I think." He spoke as he sat the drink down. "I'm going to go drag that peg board out real fast." He spoke standing.

She nodded. "I think I can handle mowing the lawn. At least I don't think I have allergies."

"I will not be having my child mowing the lawn. Nice try." He called back as he picked up the board to drag it outside. "Have you told Beth yet that your moving?"

"Hey I offered!" She pouted.

"And not yet. I'm kind of waiting until we know for sure we get the house." She grinned. "I'm sure she'll insist on helping move though. Just because her parents wouldn't like the idea of her lifting boxes. You wouldn't mind would you? I mean if she stayed the night that night? Not like we'll be sleeping anyway."

And the dusty father peered back in giving her that look again "Learn to fight and swim. Yard work is my job, ya know unless someone's already paid to do it. Which is always possible in Santa Monica." He spoke and moved back into the garage to work on more demolition. He wasn't so much hungry as he had been thristy.

"Oh god the shrill of teenage girls." He spoke trying to sound like it was a no bthrowing something else metal out into the old broke down Frame before responding "If I say yes, you and her will be allowed to do anything you want but lift boxes. Though I would ask your mother incase she has any other rules. Otherwise I don't care."

"You know you're taking the fun out of moving." Yes Grace was pouting at him, though her eyes showed she was trying not to laugh.

"And I'll ask don't worry."

"You can pack your room and anything else, I am just stating no heavy lifting for the growing teenage girl." He spoke as he pulled the goggles back over his eyes and moved to step back up the chair and onto the work bench to pick the drill back up. "Why do you always fight me on these things child? I don't want you doing manual labor Worry about your grades."

"I'm sure she will approve but still I feel better if you ask."

"Because I won't have to worry about classes when we move. Next week is the last week. And besides, heavy lifting would help my strength for boxing." She grinned finishing her bag of chips before tossing the bag and going back to sorting things like she was asked to do. "Let's face it Dad, you have a stubborn daughter." She was giggling. "There's nothing wrong with a little hard work now and then."

"I'll ask her when we get home tonight."

"She's got you learning boxing?" He asked a bit curious on that, hell it sounded cool. Having a daughter adn wife that could easily break anyone that came their way took a lot of worry off his mind. "Still not happening. You may have your little sleep over but you will not be moving boxes." He spoke looking back at her a moment before he went back to unscrewing things off the wall. "You are stubborn, Sometimes your worse then I am." He spoke as he worked.

"The classes may be over but their are still other things you can do besides moving things around. Like when we find a new place for the garage you can help me paint or something."

"Selene thought it would be a good base to work off of. And I'm having fun with it, still no real match for her or James, but I can hold out for a bit with them, that's good right?" She started putting the stuff they would be moving into a box setting it along with a few other boxes she had filled earlier and putting the stuff they had to get rid of in one of the bins.

"That would be fun. You going to let me help out there this summer too? It would only be in the summer promise. But I kinda liked it when we worked on Jezabelle together. I don't see why I can't learn a few other things just to help out when you get busy."

"Well they are a bit exceptional anyway darling, I bet your getting much stronger then you think. I doubt I could even truly stand up to either of them if something were to ever happen. Which is why I'm glad I'm on their good side." As he moved across the bench he finally sat down the drill "Would you hand me the wire cutters and that roll of electrical tape?" He asked pushing the goggles up once more now that the speakers were fully in view.

"Of course I am, I also plan to have you able to drive by the time you can get your permit." Looking back to her as he pulled the first of the big speakers out and started to unhook some of the wires. "I will teach you as much as I can Grace, I dont mind at all."
