It's a great scene.
But how many conversation are like that?
I think perhaps most.
You can present perfectly logical evidence, but it doesn't matter.
… because "These go to eleven."
Particular in the realms of religion, politics, child-rearing, and so many other sacred dogma.
I take it to the cynical position, that's how pretty much every argument to get a person to change their mind, ends up.
It's not that a thought is 'above' them like Tufnel. They often can't conceive of the idea it doesn't fit the paradigm. A circle doesn't have corners.
