Cons or Humanitarians: Did Tom Hanks lie?

"We're not asking for your money ...
no wait, maybe we are ...
... we're just not asking you."

Is it me or is The One Campaign scary, dirty business?
Am I wrong?

When I first heard about this ... I idly thought 'Hey that's good, and no money!!! {shrugs} nifty, if true ... wonder how that works?'
So out of curiosity I went to their site ( http://www.one.org ) wondering where people are donating, time, food, etc. I couldn't really immediately figure it out on the website. The Front page is just an in-your-face petition, and celebs. with 'sad/serious' eyes.

Then I found this:We believe that allocating an additional ONE percent of the U.S. budget toward providing basic needs like health, education, clean water and food, would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation of the poorest countries.

WHAT!!!!! THAT IS MY MONEY!!! THAT'S EVERBODYS' MONEY {confusion} SO YOU ARE ASKING FOR MY MONEY -- i.e. YOU'RE LYING?

If I'm wrong let me know. If these are nice, good people looking to help, and NOT looking to steal money from everyone, I'd hate to condemn them.
