I debated locking this post, but I've always said I wont do that, I have no secrets

Had a really bad day today, totally over reacted to things, namely the news that if my till is down at work the money will now come out of my wages. Since i am not a thief and the tills have not been down in weeks this should not bother me so much, but I completely stressed myself out about it. I  spent most of the day fighting tears and losing the ( Read more... )

Ugh, that is such a gross policy. Yes, some people steal and w/e, but that sort of thing is far more telling about those in management than it is about any employee with a till that's down. It just feels like a lack of trust and a complete unwillingness to deal with the tiny human errors we all make. :-\

*Squishes you* I'm glad your boss was understanding about it for now, at least. Hopefully things will be OK.

Thank you. I appreciate your support.

With the till what's concerning is there is a manual emergency override which will pop open the till without leaving evidence of a log on. I could be the only person logged onto that till all day, and it'd look like I'm a thief. of course the manager cashing up could steal from my till too, to set me up, I'm not paranoid it's happened to me before.

That really really sucks so much.

If I lived closer I'd so kick ass and take names.

That's horrid. I remember chatting to the main man of security for a big British retailer and he was absolutely clear that most cases weren't to do with the till operator at all and minor mistakes are just that insignificant - its just an easy way to scrape back the money at the expense of making your staff feel like crap. I'm glad your manager was at least supportive. It sounds like its above her head to deal with though.

Not paranoid or over reaction. A perfectly legitimate gripe on a particularly bad day.

I hope it gets better.
