I went to Illinois to visit a couple of colleges so I figured I'd say something for future reference mhm yea.
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was pretty good. The town was about the size of IC, except that there was a downtown and a separate campus-town. The mall was pretty decent... which is important and all. The campus was very big and too much walking was done. The school doesn't offer biomed which is lame, but it does have a nice engineering program and higher qualifications than UofI. The dorms were really small though, but maybe I have to high of expectations. Overall I liked the school and the town it was in because it reminded me of Iowa City but the school seemed better and without the whole staying in IC thing... I'm just not sure it's worth the extra cost of going out of state.
Then we went to Schaumburg and I got lots and lots of new clothes which was a good time.
I liked Northwestern more though... big surprise. Evanston was really pretty, nice little city with fancy old houses and the lake with a beach right on campus. The downtown had some really good looking restaurants and Urban Outfitters would only be a 10 minute stroll away. Or if the city got a little too IC-like I could ride my bike or take the L right into Chicago. The university was also pretty great... private school feel with state school major choices including biomed. Not too many and not too few students. What seemed to be a large variety of students... not just tons and tons of Illinoisans. The campus was a nice size and fairly enclosed, which is what I like about ISU. The dorm they showed us was pretty small and ugly looking, but the guy said there were other ones that were 3 times the size for the same price so maybe that's not too bad. Also they do the year in quarters instead of semesters which seemed like a good alternative. Pretty much I really liked the school and the location I'm just not sure about the expectations. I think I could get in to it, but I'm not sure I'd want to work that hard to compete with a bunch of top students since I'd probably just be average. Plus it costs a TON. They don't offer merit scholarships since it takes enough just to get enough, but the financial packages do bring it down to less than other out of state schools (except that's still more than 3 times as much as Iowa).
I think I'll apply to both and see about the whole cost thing.
I also haven't really decided if I want to go that far away because I love IC and UofI has a good premed/biomed program. I just don't know if I feel like staying in a city I've lived in my entire life with a bunch of the same people.
Let's see...what else.
I started working at Hyvee Drugstore... real exciting. It's not too boring especially when it's busy and I think I'm getting the hang of it. Plus the hours don't suck that much, except I have to work 5-10 on the fourth (laaaame). Jazzfest was this past weekend, Friday was a lot of fun and then Saturday was alright but I was in this weird mood. I'm in a weird mood a lot of the time though soooo whatever. Caitlin and I went on a bike ride on Sunday. I hadn't ridden a bike in years, I thought I had forgotten how to but it was good good goody good. This is boring I don't know... I'm bored. Ugh I don't know.
