the last two days

whenever I'm home, I don't get a chance to type and update this blog. There's always so many other things on my to-do list. But today I am subbing 2nd grade, and they are at Art for an hour. So, I can blog.

This last weekend was GREAT!!!!! My son and I got to go camping. We went out to a local Boy Scout campground for a parent-son camp. He got to earn two belt loops that can only be earned AT BSA or Area Council camps. You can not earn it at home, or even on the pack level. And now my kiddo has them. We could afford to go to camp because I volunteered the whole activities time. But, a nice Navy man took my son around with him and his son. Then I got to eat dinner with my son, watch him wrestle some other boys in a field outside the dinning hall, and go to the campfire show with him. We learned a few new skits that are cute, but most of them were just weird. And then off to our site to sleep in our new tent. First time sleeping it it. My son and I set it up before the weekend in our front yard to practice setting it up, checking for all parts, and to spray it down with waterproofing stuff. Glad we did that, 'cause it rained all night Sat. I was happy that God had the rain on early in the morning, but turned it off for activities in the afternoon. Then it started to rain at the end of campfire, but was dry again Sun morning when packing up. How good and kind He is.

Then yesterday was a fun day too. The rain of the weekend and Mon made my son and dog all "cabin-fever". So Tues after school, all my son wanted to do for his good behavior was play with friends. So first he went to light-saber fight with some boys in the neighborhood. Then we packed up in the car, and went to pick up my BFF's niece for a play-date. At her house my dog got out of the car. When I tried to get him to climb back into the back-most part of the van, away from the kids, he slipped out of his collar, and was running all around the front yard as we tried to catch him. BAD DOG!!! Then I caught him, tightened the collar, and put him in the car. We went over to a local nature center with a playground. At first the kids played on the playground, and I worked on training my dog not to bark at the kids making so much movement. He's a herding dog, so that much play was driving him nuts to be quiet on the sideline of. Then we took a walk around the pond. Early on my son wanted to play with sticks in the water. I told him to leave nature alone. A little further on up the path, he wanted to play with a stick that was on the shore. He knew it was wrong, and positioned himself next to the stick and waited for me to be distracted with the 4yr old (who was on the dock, and I was watching that she didn't fall in). My son reached for the stick and when he saw me turning his direction, pulled on it really hard and fast. Then yelled out in pain. some broken fishing wire was hanging from the stick, and hanging from the fishing wires were three rusty old fishing hooks. All three had broken through his shirt, one well past the barb (that was though to get out). Two of the hooks had poked him in the back, but only one didn't go far and was wiggled back out in his "pain dance". The other needed some more work, and drew blood. My dog sat still, and didn't pull on the leash once as I tried to work carefully with the hooks. That helped a lot, so I'm proud of my puppy. My son on the other hand, I was not too happy with. I had my reasons for telling him to leave things alone, fishing hooks being just one of them. But he, in his more infinite wisdom once again knew better than his mom. . . so he thought. And once again it turned into a lesson of "Will you just obey me, please? You don't need to know my reasons, but they are always meant for your own well being. If you had obeyed me, ___ would not have happened! Will you listen and obey next time?" (which I should leave off the end, cause he'll do it again. He always does.) So, that made for an interesting evening. The kids went back around to the playground, and even the puppy got on this time, since no one else was really there. Then we swung home to drop the dog off and pick the swimming suit up, and took our friend back to her folks before my son went to swimming lessons.

So, that was our fun for the last two days.
