there was a shooting yesterday outside my building. one person died, two are in hospital.
I'm okay, i was running late so i missed it all. they sent me home as the killer was still on the loose in the city, and it wasnt safe.
what an insane experience. it was literally outside my building, outside our front door.
you always think these things are not going to happen to you. near you. its like, it should be happening in america, on tv, in movies.
what i find incredible, is that they blocked the streets off for hours. they warned people to stay indoors. they had forensic teams investigating every slither of evidence. witness statements from everyone. it literally turned the city into a standstill.
is this what happens in america? at every shooting, every drive by? do they block off half the city. warn people to stay indoors. all the things we saw yesterday. police in flack-jackets with semi-automatic weapons ... is this what it is like in america? in other parts of the world? cause, by what television says, it sure isn't. but, if television is right, everyone is thin and white in america and we all know that isn't true ... gah.
it's just a shocking turn of events. i feel sorry for the gentleman who was shot and died on the scene. his family,. his friends. he was just doing the right thing, helping a woman who was getting dragged out of a taxi by her hair. he was trying to help her and he got shot. is the lesson not to help people? i hope not. i feel for the dutch tourist who was shot and is now in a critical condition at the royal melbourne hospital. the woman who also got shot but is now stable, but serious condition. these people, their lives will never be the same. for what? since when do we live in a world where people carry guns in their pants? call me naive, but i liked the world a whole lot better on sunday. is this my fall, is this my coming of age? i dont think so. but i'm just glad it wasnt me, or anyone i know or anyone i love.
