I was a bit insane and signed up for the costume competition. The ranger thing isn't flashy, but it is all handmade and super detailed, so I figured I would not need to be embarrassed to be in the lineup. (and I wasn't, but somebody who is more or less a pro (last year fashion academy) had done something hugely elaborate Elizabethian that was really on another level completely. So that dominated)
But anyway, I went up onto a podium and did a very short speech I had prepared (and skipped a line because I couldn't find how it started, but whatever) and I was nervous but I did it. And I looked like this: (only took the glasses off for the stage bit)
And it was a good day! There was yummy food and honey beer and I bought a pretty fibula because I think it's going to be good as a shawl pin. And we walked past the German Fellowship re-enactment camp and there was another female Ranger! It was funny because we kind of honed in on each other and then she invited us in and we got to look around in their camp and we chatted for a bit. She was trying to convice me I needed to come to the German RingCon because David Wenham will be there and then we could both go and "Captain!" him :-D
